What's new

Pixar is driving me completely Insane!

I work half a block from Pixar's HQ, and they are building...something...(they have this big ol' compound, surrounded by a high fence and bushes). They have had these piledrivers going for the past two weeks, all day, every day...I swear to god I'm gonna kill someone. It's not TOO bad when it's just one going, because you can sort of get used to the sound, but when they are BOTH going and it's arhythmic, it's enough to make you want to explode. The sound is comin in pretty much unfiltered through these high glass windows right above me, so it's like it is being funneled directly into my skull.

Help me...help me cope...headphones do not help...is there some sort of OSHA reg or anything against this sort of torture? GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

Have you tried using in-ear headphones? They cancel noise fairly well.

Yeah, I have Etymotic canal phones, and they reduce exterior noise by about 25db, and even THAT isn't enough. I have to listen to music at a less-than-comfortable level to drown it out, and if I do that for too long, the ol' ringing ears becomes a problem.

It's GREAT right now...sounds like they moved one a bit, and I'm now getting this reflected echo of one of them, plus the first really loud one, so it sounds like THREE of them going...

Everything I've ever seen or heard about Pixar talks about how their employees are paid to and do have FUN!!!:lol::lol:

I bet they're laughing at you right about now!:biggrin:

The type of hearing protection they use at shooting ranges might be your best bet.

Cool! I love Pixar, it would be great to work near them.

My older daughter is a bit of an artist and we live right near Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age, etc) and she, at 6 years old, made me take her there to apply for a job as an illustrator. She drew her versions of the Ice Age characters as her portfolio, and it was just too precious for me not to take her. The receptionist was great and played along, and brought out some other people to see her work.

There are some people in this world who get it.

My bose noise-cancelling headphones work incredibly well...almost too well.

For $400, they should.

I used to have a pair of the QuietComfort IIs. They were excellent for cutting out background noise, airplanes in particular, but the head strap (head piece?) snapped. If it wasn't for the price, I'd get another pair.

Anywho, try this on for size. Failing that, try those and custom-fitted earplugs. The only downside there is that the sound of your heartbeat can get annoying. heh

THAT IS AWESOME! What a sweet story.

And as far as the Bose suggestion goes...I'm too much of an audiophile to spend money on Bose, sorry guys. I'm just a snob when it comes to sound quality. For me, it's Sennheiser HD650's, but they are open-backed phones, so they let noise right on in...*sigh*. I just had a coffee and a laugh with a co-worker taking about CHinese bluegrass music, so I'm coping a bit better. I'm all set for my annoying support call with Symantec now...YAY.

Very awesome!

A company I worked for took over Pixar's old office space in Point Richmond. Their artists had drawn all over the walls on their way out. There was some awesome stuff. My company cut the artwork into panels and stored it away, then put in new walls.

During the refit, I sat in every 'executive' chair in the screening room.

Now I can say my *** has been in the same chair as Steve Jobs'.

Edit: here's some pictures of what they're doing.

Post-edit: every cubicle had one of those goose-neck 'Pixar' lamps clamped on it.
