Pistol Grip Ban

NYC has banned pistol grips on shotguns...for home defense, utilizing a shotgun, I am a big fan of pistol grips.More manueverability means better defense in rapid situations...The Mossberg Mariner with 9 rounds of 12 gauge (once also available in 20 gauge) is a moisture resistant workhorse, and is tailor made for pistol grips.:glare:

The aforementioned shotgun looks to be a Mossberg 500.

For comparison...
Here is a Remington 870 Super Magnum. Barrel is 19 1/2" from muzzle to bolt face (closed). This is how BATFE measures barrel length for enforcement purposes.
The magazine here is for four 2 3/4" standard shells (fewer magnum rounds)

So, judging on relative length of barrel to receiver and magazine tube to receiver...still looks like 14" to me

Ah, the pic isn't a stock Mossberg 500, it seems. I was only doing the math figuring the magazine had to fit 8 shells, and assuming (which was the fail) the one pictured was a stock model with stock magazine.

Here are the stock photos of both models...the pistol grip comes with the package...The first photo above is of a custom 14" barrel, and yes, illegal in some states...

A pistol grip is a fine thing when used in conjunction with a full/collapsable stock of some kind, but I don't think increased maneuverability in the case of a pistol-grip only shotgun trumps increased accuracy when the butt of that thing is in the shoulder where it needs to be. Accuracy isn't negotiable in home/self defense situations and shouldn't be sacrificed for maneuverability.

If they are going to start banning things that "looks scary" NY is going to be a pretty empty state as I have seen some pretty scary people living there

LOL! I personally prefer a pistol grip for home defense (personal preference). I recently traded an AR for cash and a Mossberg 500 Chainsaw and love the combination. It's unfortunate that these limitations are being made that directly affect law-abiding citizens.

I prefer standard stock for everything. BUT, I shoot skeet and sporting clays a bit, and, for me, a standard stock is FAST to the shoulder, I shoot everything low-gun. Pump guns in NY should be OK with pistol grip. I think. Who knows...
