When I smoked a pipe I seldom had it in my mouth other than when drawing on it. Straights are definitely easier to clean. I never smoked an individual pipe more than once a day, stored it bowl up with a cleaner in the stem, never smoked an aromatic tobacco, and never smoked except when sitting because smoking was a relaxing time for contemplating.
