Pinaud thoughts

so i have just tried Clubman and LV, separate and together..

I think Clubman is too strong a scent for me and LV is off-putting to the wife, although i think it has a certain special quality bad and good. My father told me it was so flowery it smelled of a brothel...

I was adding a bit of glycerin to the LV which i thought toned down the institutional toilette theme a bit, but wife said no. She told me to wash it off, but i just added some Clubman instead and it was quite a surprising change. It toned down the Clubman and had an accent of a nice nose of LV, but the wife still made faces...

I think my problem is the sillage. even diluted the scent remains on me for way too long.

Hmm, can't say that I've ever mixed LV with anything else. I like all of the Pinaud ranges (with the exception of the nauseating Tres Flores) and I use them just as they are, without adding anything else to them. Your comments about your wife's reaction don't seem to be that unusual either. I'm happy that Mrs. Nid Hog doesn't go there.

You might want to try leaving a little water on your face before you apply the Pinaud Clubman as this seems to tone it down.

Other than that, you might have to wear your Clubman on days when your wife and your father are not around. I'd hate to see you not be able to wear your Clubman! :thumbup1:

(Barbasol Pacific Rush might be an alternative too if you like a menthol kick. Mild scent which fades fast. I like Barbasol Brisk as well which is a Skin Bracer clone, but it's a stronger scent).

You do get great scents from Pinaud. These are the real deal. The key is to give your wife and dad a vote, but not a veto. There are ways of working these things into the rotation. :biggrin1: Besides, it's quite possible that your wife will get to like the scents at some point. Good luck!

Father is NY, I am in VA, so no big deal on what he likes..

I have been rocking the Vegetal since friday, everyday...

i've tried adding the water to both pinauds and it is till overwhelming...:thumbdown

I have the some other AS's, Proraso, Gucci Envy, Juicy Dirty English skin tonic, Adidas Dynamic Pulse (don't like so much, very gritty heavy smell), so on

but I may think about decanting these into smaller spray bottles and spreading the love.

I like the scent of Clubman but thought it too strong and diluted it with alcohol and water. Eventually I started using it straight again and found the strength of the scent diminished soon enough and no longer dilute it. I think, after an hour Clubman comes into its own.

I didn't like it at first but I like it now. Maybe I should try Tabac again.

My father told me it was so flowery it smelled of a brothel...

Did you ask him how he knew what a brothel smelled like???

I like Clubman Pinaud as it reminds me of my Grandfather and my wife likes it as well so I am lucky in that area.. she did not care for the Bay Rum or Special Reserve so those left the building. Can't find Vanilla, Lilac, or Lime in my area so haven't tried those yet.

I am glad that I am one of the wives that like the veg and the clubman. There are many a day when Hubbie asks me what scent to wear and I tell him to Rock the Veg!!

Ahhh...
The Veg Haters, ever clinging to their motto;

"fiel pero desdichado"

Hey, I thought this was a family forum! :mad3: Go wash your mouth out with Williams!

I have slowly converted my bride to the dark si...I mean, to a Pinaud fan. I couldn't get her to buy off on the standard Clubman, but after a rocky start and some applied psychological warfare training, she's not merely tolerant of the Veg, she compliments me on it, and she really likes the Special Reserve! :w00t:

Now, I plan on sneaking the Classic Vanilla in on her...

yesterday evening while waiting for my wife, i opened the bottle and took a big whiff of LV and it was rather pleasing.. what's strange is that a day before i did the same thing and wasn't so impressed...

i thought i had bought the smaller LV bottle of 6 oz, but apparently i didn't realize i bought the 12 oz.

Barbasol Pacific Rush is my main aftershave, but I have a small bottle of it with a bit of extra water and a dash of Clubman in it for when I want a longer lasting scent. I like it and the mix seems to tone down the Clubman nicely and somehow enhances/lengthens the PR scent.

I don't see why you should have to sneak. Classic Vanilla is the best of the lot. I tried it for the first time not long ago and could kick myself for passing it by for so long.

Of all the Clubman line I think the Classic Vanilla is the most modern and friendly of the lot. I use it on occasion and my wife has always liked it.

I do think it is the least masculine of the line.

I wear the regular clubman and special reserve. the wife loves regular, hates special. special is growing on me but it is a little old man-ish.
