Pinaud Shave Cream

That stuff was pretty good.

Too bad it was discontinued.

I was looking around for an alternative and found B&B.

Olive oil and VDH soap works pretty good but takes more time.

I've been using a DE black super speed for decades and didn't even know they stopped making them.

Welcome to B&B!

I have never used Pinaud shave cream, but it sounds nice. Did it smell like Clubman, or something else? What blades do you favor?

If you have a Bed and Body Shop in the area, you might look for Bigelow cream. If you have a Whole Foods or a speciality health store, see if they have Kiss My Face cream. If there's an Indian grocery in your area, I can recommend Godrej cream.

I've seen tubes of Clubman shave cream on a few sites, the cans have been discontinued according to the Pinaud website.

Clubman shave cream in a can was discontinued several years ago.

It was locally available, inexpensive and had a nice smell - it had a lighter fragrence than the aftershave, didn't linger and worked really well. It lubricated and softened my skin and beard so I didn't feel the blade, get cut or experience razor burn. I still have about a third of a can left. I packed it in a box a few years ago and just found it reciently and now I use it once in a while sparingly when touching up. I've been using Barbasol since I stopped seeing Clubman on store shelves. I never really gave it much thought until I finally got so discusted with dry skin, cuts, razor burn and stubble that I started looking around on the internet for an alternative and found this place.

In the meantime I saw some Gillette series gel on sale reciently at a local supermarket and figured I'd give it shot. After trying it and realizing that wasn't the answer I continued to look around for an alternative that would work. The Nivea for sensitive skin isn't bad but it left my skin feeling a little raw and the balm didn't seem to help very much and I really didn't want to put Vaseline or A+D ointment on my skin on a regular basis.

The best thing I've been able to come up with so far is using olive oil as a preshave oil and VDH soap. The VDH boar brush is good enough for now. I've been using Wilkinson blades and a black SS for decades - I have a couple of them. I'm able to get Wilkinson blades locally in most discount stores - 5 blades for a buck.

I never used aftershave in the past because of cuts, etc. And aftershave wasn't going to make a crappy shave any better. Aside from that I really don't like the perfume smell of aftershave in general.

The shaves I've been getting lately are really close, smooth and comfortable - no nicks or cuts and I've been using Witch Hazel followed by Superior 70 Bay Rum as an aftershave.

One thing I'd like to know - Why is it so difficult to get a smooth shave around the neck under the jaw without multiple passes usually resulting in some sort of irritation?

I think I'm going to try and get one of those red tip Superspeeds or a Gillette adjustable and see if that helps.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll see if I can get some KMF shave cream. Everything I've read so far has been positive about it and it's probably available locally.
