Pinaud: sacrilegious or go for it?

So here is my dilemma. I have 2 vintage glass Pinaud bottles. One is a Lilac Vegetal bottle and the other is a Lilac of France (perfume) bottle. I have cleaned out and refilled the LV bottle and it is currently part of my den. The LoF bottle is unused in my closet. I had been wondering what to do with it, and I had a brainstorm last night.

What if I took all the Lilac labels off the bottle and used it to house Pinaud Bay Rum? I already have a glass bottle for my Clubman, so this would complete the collection. I just don't know if taking the Lilac labels off would be sacrilegious. What are your thoughts?

Hey, it's your bottle--do whatever floats your boat! Seriously, if it were me, I'd much prefer using that bottle for my PCVIBR than just having it sit in a closet. I'd lose the labels, except keep the Ed. Pinaud "stamp" on the side, just for S's & G's. A bottle unused is a bottle wasted, and that one is just too good to sit there, IMO.

I'd vote for removing the labels and using it. Although I hadn't thought of using it for your BR and keeping the labels. Nothing wrong with it really unless the cognitive dissonance of Bay Rum being labeled with something quite different bugs you. But I don't really value things as a collector would. Everything I have I have because it serves some purpose beyond its mere existence.

Or at least that's what I'm striving for.:blushing:

I'm leaning toward removing the labels. I'll keep the stamp and anything that isn't scent specific. I'll also try to preserve the labels I remove to keep if possible.

I vote... Use It! I had a similar dilemma... My brother somehow took possession of my grandfather's last unopened botttle of the Veg after he died back in the 80's. My brother gave it to me and I kept it unopened for years. A few years ago, even before returning to blade and brush, I decided why not use it and when empty I will display the bottle. I use it sparingly (yea, I know... you have to use the Veg sparingly!). I like the scent and the vintage label (probably from the 70's) but most of all I think of my grandfather. I'm sure he would want me to use it.

I'll also try to preserve the labels I remove to keep if possible.

+1

you "may" be able to "lift" the label and "store" it on something where you can get it off should you want/need it in the future.

Not sure what for but it is always best to NOT destroy something even if you can't see any use for it at the present time

For me, I would definitely use the bottle and house the bay rum but I wont remove the labels bec it's part of the bottle's history and charm :scooter:

You should keep the label to preserve the "collectability" of the bottle. But if you really want to remove the label go to a philatelic shop and get a bottle of stamp remover. This will soften the gum and should not damage the label.

I hear y'all. One problem though is that the label it starting to peel on its own. I fear that if I use it and grab the bottle with a wet hand, that after a while the label is going to come off anyway.

Nice looking bottles you have there and the cap looks like its in good shape as well.
Well if it were me I would leave the label unless I felt it would come off cleanly in one piece.

I'm pretty much a "ditch the label" guy, but those look OK (the front ones).

I have 4 or 5 label-free Pinaud bottles that I have various Pinaud frags in, and it's easy to tell what's in there by the color.
