What's new

Pimp my Drawer.

Went to the depot and A.C. Moore. Spent about 60 bucks, and got some velvet, a shadow box, some poplar wood, some acrylic, some earth magnets, and some wood stain.
First I corked the bottom of the drawer for added shock absorption. I made the shadow box by removing the glass, replacing it with acrylic, adding hemp hinges and jigging out a little thumbnotch (rough cut, I know). Then I felted the backing, glued earth magnets all over the backing, and finally added a style touch with some red velvet.

I made a 30x4" mini cabinet to store my TM artisan in latigo when not in use. That's where the poplar wood came in. Sanded, stained, and glued in place. The first picture shows the cabinet closed (with a nice glass bead handle), the second shows it opened up. It is felted, and I keep a piece of felt on the strop when not in use. I even have a nice spot for my Norton 4/8k (extreme left) and behind it is my DMT (not shown).

Now, my razors get to chill outside of their coffins. Creams, soaps, and brushes are still kept in the bathroom. But here, I can strop and care for my razors without taking forever in the John.
4 hours. But I can't stop staring at it.

Very nice! I feel bad having my stuff on a cheap book shelf between my class readings...

I feel bad for not buying a wooden display box for my razors now....

Except that the number of razors in my rotation keeps on growing.... :001_rolle haven't even had a chance to shave with two of them yet. C'mon hair! grow faster.....

I actually made up my mind that I am going to stick to as many razors as fit that case. If I want a new one, I sell an old one.

We'll see how it goes. My fiancee is quite dubious.

She sounds like a wise woman. Beware her cunning intellect, as she will try to fool you into things like "dishes" and "housework" in exchange for things like "razor tolerance" shortly after your engagement ends and marriage ensues.

Do what I do and shave twice a day.
I could be confused with a Yeti if I don't.

That's a really cool drawer box you have there.

That's the same idea that I had
I'm in the middle of making a box that will hold seven razors and I'm going to try to stick to that.

I wonder how long we'll last

I love the display, well done

Nice, quitting is better when you have someone to quit with. Only I don't think of it as quitting so much as constantly trading up for better drugs.

Thats a nice looking drawer you have done there. Aside from the cost of materials, how long did it take you to make it? I might be interested in doing something like that!

Thanks for the kind words.
It took about 4 hours, but an hour of that was letting the stain dry to the touch.
I just realized that the width of my drawer was about 1/2" longer than the length of the strop. It had to be done.:001_smile
I bought a variable speed handheld jigsaw, which made the process go much faster. It was only 40 bucks at home depot, and it's a great tool.

Sweet, I might have to make something like this a project in the near future!
