PILS all stainless weight

Could someone weigh their all stainless PILS in grams for me? My 118NN comes in at 119g, which is less than the advertised 125g. I was wondering if the nickel plated brass neck ring and end cap could really make 6 grams of difference as opposed to the all stainless model.

It's a minor gripe, but they should really make their descriptions more accurate. I've had this problem before with the Muhle and EJ razors with the new heads. Weights listed haven't matched what I received.

Bumping this to see if anyone can help me out, thanks.

Mine is at home while I am on vacation. Your estimate is that the brass caps might affect the weight seems reasonable.

I suppose you could really geek out and do some volumetric analysis and using the density of either material to see if you are off something close to the amount. Or yeah, you could do something like watch TV instead and hope that the few Pils owners pull through. I will in 4 days!

Brass and Stainless Steel are pretty much equal in weight.
Zinc/Zamak is 2/3rds the weight of brass and aluminum is 1/3rd the weight of brass.

Thanks both of you. I think I'll wait and see what someone says about theirs. I suspected the brass wasn't the reason, but if the all stainless is heavier, I don't know what it would be.

Could just be as simple as difference in insruments used to measure the razors. weight with or without a blade perhaps?

No...

6 grams does not a blade weigh, more like half a gram. 6 grams is almost a quarter ounce so it might just be that they wanted to use a nice "round" number of 125 instead of 119 in their literature.

I just weighed the lined Chatsworth I received and it actually weighs more than what The English Shaving Company says. They say 110g, I weigh 115g.

What conspiracy doth confront us... :glare:

Yeah like I said my EJs and Muehles were all over the map compared to what was advertised.

I know it's maybe not a big deal for some but I really don't like it.

ok so far if we go with the thread we have ruled out blade and densities of materials as possible causes for the weight difference. There aren't too many other places where material is removed out of the handle itself. So if you want to measure with any detail the razor I'll compare it to mine when I get home. Or.. there is an instrument off somewhere.

If it makes a difference there seems to also be a huge difference in weight between Pils finish types of their Mach 3 line on their web site. The heads are the same so the only difference would be the handles.they go from 72g to 40g.

Ok, so I am kinda bored on vacation at the moment and this thread just happened to be the bright light bug zapper that I am flying towards.

The base description for all 5 models available here states 3.5 inches and 125 grams. So there shouldn't be a discrepancy between any of the PILS models.

Tordu, I weighed mine again after making sure my scale was calibrated exactly (it was). It comes in at 118.8g. So 1 extra gram maybe for the heavy nickel plate on the end cap and neck ring? Since brass and stainless weighs the same, that makes the most sense.

You guys have really got to stop posting all this PILS nonsence........

........because I am really, really, really wanting one and I can feel self control slippin' away!

Don't get one. They are awful, awful razors.

Does that help? :tongue_sm

Dustin,
They still haven't weighed the PILS' shaving awesomeness. Stay tuned! :tongue_sm

Do you think it's possible that they weighed a pre-production model or prototype and accidentally used that measurement instead of the production weight?

Discrepancy aside, the Pils feels great in the hand and delivers a fine shave.
