Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku (Forest Green) Ink

I fell in love with this ink immediately, which is great because I wasn't sure I'd like it after I ordered it. I had second thoughts, partly because of the cost. I was also worried it would be a pedestrian, "1990's country decor" forest green. You may remember that burgundy, navy blue, and forest green combo. It was a popular bedspread and couch upholstery color scheme back in Tennessee when I was growing up.

This ink resembles the underside of some pine needles in the right light. That is to say, it seems to exhibit a touch of white/light-gray coating or finish when it dries, particularly in lines containing less pigment. It's difficult to describe, but it's a pleasing color that resonates with some part of me. I enjoy spending time outdoors, so maybe that's it. It's a relaxing color for me, and I enjoy Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses for much the same reason. I don't mean to go all new-age hippie, regarding this ink, but I've definitely headed down that road.

In bright, direct light, Shin-ryoku isn't terribly dark; think a rich grass green. It exhibits nice shading, which is a pleasant, unexpected surprise. As is often the case, online photos don't do this ink justice. They typically make it look like a boring color. I'll post some photos soon, but words may do a better job with this ink, mainly because my photography skills and equipment aren't great.

I was just reading another review of this ink, and it was described as a "cold green." I think that helps describe it a little more.

Sounds like you are enjoying it! It looks like a cool color from the swab on the goulets site.
I hate when I buy a new bottle of ink, and hate it... Only happened once I guess.

Since I'm still so cherry, I've only bought one bottle of ink, 5 o' clock shadow which I finally like, in a medium nib Parker 45. I've been buying lots of samples from Goulet to try and I think once I go through this next set of samples I'll finally be able to narrow down a few bottles to order. The only problem is that these are all blacks, blues and blue-blacks. Next I want to find a red and green to use, I guess I need to keep looking for more pens to load up the different colors.

I love Pilot inks. Yama-Guri is my everyday ink at work (for notes and personal stuff). Shin-Ryoku is one that I haven't tried yet. Great... looks like I need to add another sample to my wishlist at Goulet! You guys are such enablers :biggrin1:

I've been messing with some greens lately and love this ink. It's incredibly similar to Pelikan Edelstein Adventurine, but I think that Shin-Ryoku has a touch more sage to it, has better shading qualities, and has a slightly quicker dry time than Adventurine.
