PIF'd some samples, a review

The title came out more misleading than it first sounded in my head. To clarify, I received a pif of a few samples... lol

So, first up I tried a bowl of Two Friends English Chocolate. I found it average to my likes. I could smoke it now and again, or not, and wouldn't miss it. The LotH, however, did not like the room note in the slightest. It's actually the first tobacco I've smoked that she commented on at all, good or bad. After a minute or two from lighting it, she turns to me and says "OK, I don't like that one... at all.." lol I'll Give it another go some night she's not home.

Next up I tried out some Grousemoor, which seems to be a very very polarizing blend. I can see why. The pouch note is sort of sweet and perfumey, kind of like incense. It tastes sort of similar to the way it smells. It's a very unique. Then I started getting some floral notes to the smoke itself, fairly heavily. There was something else to it, but I couldn't exactly place it. This is one of the first tobacco's I've also had trouble keeping lit. As in, I never got the bowl to actually light enough to get more than 2 or 3 sips, and it was out. I'll give it another go in a different pipe, I'll also left it dry out a bit before packing it and trying it again. I'm undecided on this one, but leaning towards it's not for me. I've had blends that were like that initially that grew on me, however, so I can't be sure yet.

Last one I tried today, Esoterica's Pembroke. Total winner with this one. Mellow, easy smoke. It just brings a very classic pipe room note and experience. It would be easy to just smoke this bowl after bowl, all day. It's just like a really great balanced blend. Much the shame it seems so difficult to get a hold of. I'll be keeping my eyes and ears open. With the review how they are, if I find it, I'll blindly buy Stonehaven and Penzance without hesitation at this point.

I have some Squadron Leader as well I've not had the chance to load up at all, but since most regard it as a latakia heavy blend, odds are I'll be in for that one, no issue. lol

Grousemoor is great. I don't get any flowery flavors from it, but a ton of sweet herbal notes. What I think it tastes most strongly of is lemongrass. :thumbup1:

If you like it, then if you ever have a chance you owe it to yourself to snag a lump of Grousemoor Plug. It's like mixture, but even better. Same flavor, but deeper, richer tobacco base with a little more backbone. The plug uses the same base tobacco blend as Kendal Plug or Best Brown Flake (very sweet, pure VA blend, but definitely medium bodied compared to Grousemoor Mixture's extremely mild base blend)

Pembroke is quickly becoming a favorite of mine, and I've only had a tin for under a month. Light up some Squadron Leader as soon as you can before Owen forces it upon you, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Grousemooor... definitely not my thing. I'm pretty confident in saying that. Which is OK, there are lots of others to try out...

Like, Squadron Leader, for example... lol I really liked that one. Very solid quality latakia English sort of blend. I'll be adding this to the list of stuff to pick up and keep handy.

Don't worry, Rat. Grousemoor is the Veg or Arko of the 'baccy world. You either love it or hate it, no middle ground.

Ha, yeah your thread probably got opened up 100 times by people that only seem to post in every thread where things are being given away...

Haha. When dealing with SG tobaccos, like Grousemore and the great Sqadron Leader, let it dry out a bit first. 15-20 minutes should be good.

Yup, what Owen said. I think Grousemore is a Samuel Gawith blend, like Squadron Leader, and anything Gawith needs to be aired out like dirty laundry. Regarding Squadron Leader, I wouldn't classify it as a Latakia heavy blend, and I don't think most do, either. It could be if you're not used to Latakia, but comparatively speaking, the Latakia in SL is soft, smooth and well balanced. It's a good one, enjoy!
