PIF: Straight razor for a brave shaver

In honor of brave shavers, a PIF!

The item to be given away is a J.R. Torrey 'Our 136' full hollow straight razor. J.R. Torrey was a Massachusetts company that existed until the 1960s.

(Lens cap and fingers not included.)

It's not the prettiest razor in the world. It has some rust around the pivot pin, and a little of the lettering is gone. But, it has the most important thing a straight razor can have: sharpness. It is shave-ready. I honed and stropped it, then soaked it in alcohol to sterilize it.

EDIT: To clarify, the PIF includes the razor only. No strop. No hone. No liquid bravery. Just a sharp blade with which to test your inherent bravery. For advice on caring for a straight razor, check out the straight-razor forum on B&B.

The rules:

  1. You must never have used a straight razor before (Double-edge razors and single-edge razors are OK. Shavettes are OK as long as you're not an expert with them.), and must want to try one
  2. You must be brave
  3. You must have a mailing address in the continental U.S.
  4. If you are the winner, you promise to strop the razor before every use except the first one
  5. You must be brave
  6. If you are the winner, you promise to dry the razor after every use
  7. If you are the winner, and you find that you do not like straight razors, you promise to PIF this razor, rather than selling it
  8. You must be brave
  9. Any other rules I decide to implement
  10. You must be brave

To enter, post BOTH of the following things in this thread:
  1. "I'm brave!"
  2. The title of the strangest movie you've ever seen or the strangest book you've ever read

I'll let the PIF run until a bunch of people (5? 20? 800?) have entered, and then I'll pick a winner at random.

Stay brave!

I'm brave and I'm in!!! AH! I would LOVE to try this!

The strangest movie I have ever seen is Cabin in the Woods.

Beasts Of the Southern Wild is wonderfully strange and should not be missed. It's all about bravery, really.

Strangest movie: "The Cook, the Thief, his Wife & his Lover"

Great choice. I saw it in the theater, and a woman literally ran out. But - and I apologize for being pedantic - it's " . . . her lover."

Anyway. Nice PIF. I have been straight shaving for awhile now, and consider myself brave, but I'm obviously not in. Just wanted to applaud the PIF, and those brave souls entering it.

I'm brave! The strangest movie I've seen was Pi.

I have used a Parker shavette before, but I've never used an actual straight razor. Want to try it out.

Thanks for the opportunity!

I guess you could say im brave...ish. the strangest movie i ever watched was "the box." It was so disturbing my wife and i actually left the theater less than halfway through. Ive NEVER left a movie before.

we brought our popcorn with us thkugh. Not about to let that go to waste.

Very cool PIF. I'm not in, I have plenty of straights, but literally laughed out loud reading your list.

Fine looking Torrey too, the lucky winner will have a great first straight.

I'm Brave!

Strangest movie would have to be "Warrior of the Lost World". I'm not even sure why I watched it. The talking bike was just awful.

I'm Brave, and have been wanting to try a straight for awhile now!

Strangest Movie: Closet Land
Stangest Book: Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk
