"A Boy Named Sue"
Great pif , I'm in !

Thanks. You're added.

Sadly when I google best BBQ in Winnipeg, I get Sushi & Stir Fry restaurants, Famous Davess, Tony Roma's, Boston Pizza. :001_unsur

The closest I come to a real BBQ/Smokehouse is Lovey's but 1/3 of the reviews are 1-2*

Bruce, it's time for you to open your own Barbecue joint. You would be a hit for sure. There's nothing like coming home at the end of the day smelling like smoked sausage.

I'll make ya famous.

While its on the topic might I just recommend something? Franklins BBQ is great, but I'd rather drive 30 minutes to Lockhart and get the greatest BBQ on the planet (Kreuz, Smittys, Blacks to name a couple) than wait in line for hours for Franklins. I used to eat there when it was just a trailer and no lines. Great guy and amazing bbq. For Austinites I'd also recommend Mueller BBQ on 6th & Pedernales and Michelthwait on rosewood. Amazing stuff. We are blessed to have all these great guys right here in town.

I've eaten at all the Lockhart places. Yes, their reputation is certainly earned and I think you have a point on the wait at Franklin's. I just had to see what the hubub was about with his BBQ. In my opinion it is top shelf stuff and will go their again. The guys I stood in line with mentioned Michelthwait. I haven't tried that...I'll be on the look out.

Well, I've had a chance to flip through some of the pages of the Franklin BBQ cookbook up for PIF . It is an excellent book. Tip and Techniques abound with pictures on how to trim brisket and ribs, smoke and fire, pits and wood. I've decided to:

Keep it for myself, go buy your own.
Just kidding:w00t:!!!!

Thanks. You're added.

I hear ya, its worth the wait….I just hate waiting in lines for anything. Micklethwait is top notch. Id also highly recommend some of the more old school places like Sams & Willies. So many great places here!

I went to the Green Mesquite a few weeks ago. I got the sausage, brisket and ribs. The brisket was dry (maybe it was left over from the prior day) but had some good smoke flavor. The ribs were average but the sausage was pretty dang good. The best thing on my plate was the potato salad.

Here's a shot of the Green Mesquite BBQ

Thanks so much for the PIF, but I'd rather an out of towner get to reap the joys of our awesome BBQ! That said I'll probably pick up my own copy at some point in time.

Have you ever tried Mueller BBQ? Theres been various incarnations of it around town. A fun fact is he's the guy who taught Aaron Franklin how to smoke

Let's see...how about:

Lovey's BBQ & Smokehouse
Muddy Waters
Danny's BBQ & Smokehouse

I take online reviews with some skepticism, but when the majority are negative, it's usually true. I use "Uraban Spoon, Now Zomato" as it's all based on customers reviews and experience:

https://www.zomato.com/winnipeg-mb/loveys-bbq-smokehouse-winnipeg
https://www.zomato.com/winnipeg-mb/dannys-whole-hog-stonewall

Nothing screams "I gotta visit her". Lovey's looks the most promising with the menus and some of the reviews.

Winnipeg is known as a Restaurant town and we have some great ones...I just have to find a good BBQ one. I had never thought about going to one before your PIF, so you sparked a fire in me to find one.

Lovey's looks like it's kid friendly.

Some folks don't really know what real BBQ is. Fall off the bone tender is not what you want in a good smoked rib. Tender yes, but with a small bit of chew. If you want fall off the bone tender (which is good too) put it in the crockpot for a braise. By that same token I have no idea what makes a good poutine. Sometimes you have to take what's given to you, and what I mean by that is, some BBQ places (or quasi BBQ places) can make a really great brisket put utterly fail in the sausage dept., etc.

I’m stumped
Maybe I should buy a book for the BBQ place I went to a few weeks ago here in New Zealand.

The service was crap. I coped atitude on arriving as I was a bit late (there were still empty tables so what the...)
While the sevice can be put aside the quailty of the food was not as we were expecting.
It was dry and a bit tough. The wife had a beef short rib and it was under cooked. There was a bone chip in the beans.
It was not all bad as the chicken wings were ok and margarita washed down the dry offering nicely.

We really don't have any American style BBQ's here and was excited to try his place. Looking at all the photos in the thin blue smoke thread and my own humble offerings I know this was a poor example of what can be done.
A lot of people say this place is very nice but maybe they just know better.

Has B&B was made me a BBQ snob?

ok that's my rant for the day, back to the I'm in gents.

We used to slow cooker the ribs and then crisp them on the BBQ as we didn't know better and thought that was as good as it got.

FF a few years, add a smoker, now we know.

Man I got a hunkering for some Smoked Meat. I have a feeling I'll do something this weekend for Father's Day. I'm not sure what yet, but I feel like sliced pork (not pulled) on a cheap, greasy hamburger bun with slaw on it and a second meat on the side. I blame you and all your visit pics.

I'm almost overdosing this month... A couple of weeks ago I had the marvelousness that is Little Miss BBQ (those of you in Phoenix should go, even with the wait!), then I smoked a couple pork butts last week, a friend of mine had us over Sunday for brisket and pulled pork, and yesterday I went to a new restaurant near me for bbq.

I may have a smoking habit...

Fridays are Fishtastic!
Aaron- have you had Hard 8 in Stephenville? I may have asked before, but CRS is kicking in. I'd like to know how they stack up.
