What's new

Pics of Kampfe Bros STAR as promised

I just received it today. The condition is outstanding--my iphone snaps really don't do it justice. No brassing or corrosion s I had previously assumed. With the exception of two blades, the rest appear to have never been used. Other than slight rust specks on the back of the wedge (where maker's mark stamp is), they are spotless. The rust will buff out in a second.

What you're seeing in the photo is only a light coat of dust, which can easily be wiped away. Making this set look new really doesn't require any elbow grease. Proper photos to come after I've cleaned the set.

Enjoy it, out of the box:

Thanks, everyone! KCB: the blades are being shipped to a guy in MO who hones safety razor blades. Will be nice to have a seven-day set in rotation.

Thank you, retro. I can't express the excitement and wonder.

Have to run out for alcohol on disenfect. Then partake in my inaugarul shave!

One question for anyone who can answer: How do you open the lather catcher for cleaning? I see the hinges on the exterior, and a locking latch inside. I'm not sure how to release it.

Figured I'd try a shave with the sharpest of the seven blades, but it just wasn't cutting it (pun intended). I had to resort to my dull Mach 3, and of course, I destroyed my neck!

Sending the blades out tomorrow.

Thanks for the clip! I actually referenced the original instruction sheet as you posted this, and figured it out. Watching your clip now.

Nice ad! Thanks for sharing. I actually purchased an original ad and an original catalog page that has beautiful lithographs of the Star sets, with written descriptions and prices on both sides of the sheet, circa 1904. I'll scan and share with the community.

The blades have been honed and I should have them this coming Monday. The man who did the job forwarded me photos of my blades throughout his honing process, plus a written description of the stones used, and in what order.

I'll post that for all to see, in addition to a follow-up on my first shave with the razor sometime next week. Thanks again for the sage advice and nice compliments. I feel right at home on this forum, and have fallen in love with my Star.
