What's new

Picked up this Citizen Eco-Drive today . . . info needed.

I picked this up today locally second-hand. Can anyone shed some light on it? Any thoughts on fair value for it? There is light wear on the band but the face looks to be immaculate. It works like a dream. I paid $132.50.

As an aside, I took it into a local jeweler and he took a couple links out for me. Instead of charging me, he traded me for a ball-end tech I had in the van I'd pcked up for $.99 at a flea market. He had some on display on his shop, and said that old jewelers like him used to sell them (and eyeglasses apparently) in their shop. His display (of which my Tech is now a part) was an overall homage to the old jeweler trade.

I'll definitely be back to that guy when anything comes up that I need. He is a top-notch old-school guy!

Looks like an Electra, http://www.citizenwatch.com/COA/Eng...anguage=English&ModelNumber=BM0722-57E&page=1

MSRP = $500 according to the site, but I found some for around $350 - 400.

Thanks for the link!

There are signs of wear on the band, so it seems like I got a fair price used. It is older--the receipt showed 2003 or 2004 I think. It isn't the gold-tone, so maybe that is a change they made and also devalues it somewhat.

Anyone here own this watch? Any thoughts on the eco-drive technology and this articular watch (if you know of it)? I saw Citizen got decent reviews in some of the posts I pulled up in the search forum.

As an aside, it is the best looking watch I've ever had on me. I'm "long and gangly" and with narrow wrists many watches just look bad--which sucks because I've seen some here on BST that are beautiful but just wouldn't work on me.

It looks like you got a good deal. On Citizen watches, you can count on paying 50-60% of MSRP. You paid about half of the discounted MSRP. It sounds like a fair deal for a used watch. I am not a fan of Citizen watches but do like the ECO brand. This is a good line for quality and durability. Wear it in good health.

Thanks for the input all. I've always shied away from watches because they've all looked so bad on my wrist. Now that I got one that fits, I can tell why gentlemen love them. It is a good feeling to have a good looking watch on the wrist. I may have to keep looking for more in the future of different types.

Now, to search the forums (I know I've seen the posts, and probably stickies) on cleaning.

Thanks again for your help everyone, and for everyone being such a good resource. I now am much more confident I payed a fair price on a used watch--that makes me feel better for my first big watch purchase.

Agree with Austin that the Eco-Drive technology is good and a good value, although I'm not usually a big Citizen fan either.

I got my wife a ladies model Eco-Drive a few years ago for a nice no-frills but dependable watch and she loved it until I could induce her to try a little pricier watch.:thumbup1:

Enjoy your watch and wear it in good health, it should be a good one.

Citizen products are often underrated. My watch maker prefers them to Seiko indicating Citizen parts are usually better quality, no plastic gears etc. It is interesting that Swiss companies make a big deal about being manufactures-eg make their own movements. Only Seiko and Citizen, being huge vertically integrated companies make virtually everything that goes into the watch for springs to screws to even lubricants. Eco drives are great-as far as a motive force for a watch they are the best from a practical point of view.

a Calibre 2100. Gains .5 sec/mo on average. No problems, stays charged weighs a ton. Heh.. I find the stop watch function works well for timing pasta etc..I have a dull life.
