Photos of Alternate Grit Pattern Stones, Show Yours

Some stones have blotches of alternate mineral content, whether the blotches are toxic or not, softer or not, helpful or not they are always showy and unique. Japanese naturals seem to have a wide variety of dual color or contrast stones, how about European stones too?
Below is my Nakayama Karasu from the deeper Aisa tomae layer showing bold black crows against the sky pattern. A dark and similar coloration and karasu type but a suita stone with Namazu from a shallower Tenjyou suita layer. And another suita with Namazu and Renge in red and Arigane small brown spots and Suji non-toxic hairline inclusions from the Tenjyou level.

I'm on a new phone sorry for the wonky pictures.

Only one of these is a Euro stone, but they're all I have, lol.

First up a Nakayama barber-size koppa with parallel namazu lines and longitudinal lines. Second, a small piece of what's probably teniyou suita but who really knows? Great stones both.

Cheers, Steve

OOOh nice stuff!

Gabe, try turning the white balance down on your camera; lots of your pics have been very yellow/orange lately. If you're using the kelvin rating put it closer to 0 than 9999.

A karasu pattern suita showing a closeup of the renge (second image). Unusual stone, probably a teniyou suita. Third image is a small piece of hard uchigumori with renge.

Cheers, Steve

Some fellows in the past have claimed that renge has no "real" effect on the stones sharpening qualities, what-ever. It always makes me feel good when I am using a suita stone with some lovely renge embedded in the surface. Is feeling good something that helps?

The plain gray stones of yore often do work well, but there is something extra special in holding a 225 million year old fossil that works, acts and smells like a unique tool.

hone on young fella

I like renge too Alex. Even if it's just a visual thing. Just like manganese lines in coticules that guys love it can be an indicator of certain qualities within a stone.

Yep, renge is cool, kind of dresss up an otherwise plain stone. Everyone likes a pretty stone to hone on.

Cheers, Steve

Yep, those beautiful stones are so addictive that Alex now refers to me a John Beresford Tipton. Only you old timers will know that reference. I haven't dealt with Alex all that often, but boy, when I did....$$!. I would not get rid of of single one, either. Later, D.

A large piece of Nakayama, smooth, fine and not very hard with several non-toxic namazu lines.

On the right side it looks like a little BBW bleeding in...the rest is manganese.
