Photomatixed #66

Perhaps others here have posted photos using HDR (High Dynamic Range) software, but I just began testing it today. I downloaded the trial version of Photomatix and used the auto bracketing on my digital camera to take 3 images of each shot, then merging these using Photomatix. I know there is more to learn and the tripod needs to be better stabilized or I need a wireless shutter release. But for a 1st try, the images are pretty cool -- ATMO.

Anyone else using Photomatix or some other HDR software tools? Seems like a technology that's been around for a while, and one that's available in a primitive fashion for the iPhone camera, certainly a technology that can add to the beauty and detailed clarity of your photos.

Will eventually post some side-by-side shots of the non-HDR and HDR images to demo the value of this tried & true software tool of the digital trade.

That is an amazing collection of military gear! And very impressive photos. Where do you have that collection displayed? Is it out all the time? Did you find these pieces in the US or on location?

And thanks for the timer tip -- it does make a considerable difference. Now I've got to get a remote so I can simplify the shutter releasing.

the collection is displayed on the internet... i keep it all stored in either a gunsafe or the corner of a room and occasionally take items out to show someone or shoot

all the guns were found in the US... having a firearm shipped from outside the country requires a licensed firearms importer to be involved and is usually only used for US collectors who want something extremely rare and expensive

the helmets (and one hat) were all found in the US (ebay, antique stores, reenactments, etc) except for the SSh40 which was shipped from somewhere in Europe (i forget where)

the various small items i have yet to photograph and add to the site are from all over the place... US, Canada, UK, various European countries, Russia

Jake,

Your photos were fantastic to begin with. I suspect this software will only make them better. And, then you go and kills us with a photo of one beautiful razor.
