Yeah, I've came up on a few along the trails and not realized until they bolt off. A couple of times I was less that 10 feet away. They seem to appear and disappear in the blink of an eye.

Tonight's waxing crescent moon.
around sunset at the nearby wildlife refuge, great horned owl is hanging around.
from what I hear, it's trying to mate with another, but so far not much progress.
