Hello, I was wondering how phigs would react with naguras. My phig doesn't deliver a great edge with water or slurry from a dmt. It took me almost a month to get my nakayama asagi to deliver and that's with naguras, it doesn't do it with water only. The edges from water only are very similar. Anybody try it? Im just trying to get some feedback as I don't want to spend 2 weeks to find out it wont deliver. Thanks.

It will take a while to develop the skill to maximize the potential of your Jnat.
It's most likely that it's not so much that the stone doesn't deliver with water-only - more like you're not 'there' yet.
In the big picture - a month with a Jnat is a very short time-frame.
So far as the Chug, or Phig, or Chinese doorstop is concerned, I suppose that using Nagura on it could possibly yield good results.
I believe this has been done before - maybe surf around to see if you can dig up a thread.

As long as the base stone is hard enough to raise slurry from the nagura it will at least do something. What? I'm not sure.

I've wondered about that myself, as well as trying it using a hyper-hard Arkansas.
No point in not trying it I guess. I don't have a Chug anymore - sold 'em all.
I do have a SB Ark - but I really don't want to mess with it - took too much work to get it juussssst right.

I've got an NOS SB I think I'm going to try this with.
Cool. Maybe try to raise a slurry on a Jnat with a small SB Ark too.
I put a slurry on a Cnat with a coticule slurry stone once once. It seemed to have potential. I never experimented with the idea as much as I should have, but it could be a cheap option for people wanting to dilucot on a budget.
Cut channels in the Chug and and use it as a lapping stone when its not holding the door open or papers to a desk..... Best actual use I have seen for them
