Personna Platinum

I usually use the Personna Platinum 10-pack and got a super raw and weepy shave today. Not at all what I was expecting. I usually use Rapira in the Rapira Swedish Supersteel. Today was the Personna and bloody and way too close with the chin. A lot more aggressive than I was expecting. What razor choice do you pair with these steel beauties? They are the Platinum Super Chrome.

I quite like them in my Merkur 34c. Not the sharpest blade, especially in that razor, but it’s a fairly foolproof combination. I shave at 4:30 am, so I don‘t want a blade that requires very careful shaving.

I used it in the Lupo 95 SB today. I would not call it harsh, but there is definitely some blade feel compared to other blades. Same feel in the Mühle R89. Not bad, but I prefer the german Wilkinsons over these.
The 2nd shave might be better.

P.s.: it will never be as smooth as the Rapira in any razor, imo.

The 4AM shave @Daiku I have used WSP T-Formula with good results.

I have not seen Merkur, did try with a Vikings Blade Chieftain Jr. and it is great for cheeks, the neck though needs to be turned on, when it is off the neck is not close at all.

The Rapira is like a Tech though not a Tech, and the Personna makes it feel too sharp for me. Maybe I am just really sensitive?
Astra Greens are too sharp for me. I was always taught start with the mildest blade you can get away with, and later in life you can use the sharper blades though the mild might not work for you. You start with mild and go sharper later in life. Based on that concept I like the mild blades.

Rapira Super Sweds were dull when I first got them. They never could do ATG at all, and I thought the 200-pack I had were effectively duds. I was wrong! They are great 5 blade shaves. WTG is all I need and while they might not be the sharpest I believe with CELLA Milano Extra Extra Purissima it is one of the best combinations ever made for any razor.

The Lupo, Italian Barber Mike recommended this to me. Have not used it, the R89 I have. I think I have used with Personna.

Have not tried the Wilkinson Sword. @Andris83 could you let me know what Wilkinson Sword is worth getting a 100-pack of? I am a bit confused with Chinese, Indian and German kind, a picture might help. I know Ken Surfs from YouTube likes these and think he uses the India made. If you make a new post for Wilkinson please include me in it.

Staying on topic, the Personna Red and Personna Blue (German) are effectively the same? I only know of Personna from an Israeli fighter pilot who mentioned red is all he would say I would ever use. I have these (gold platinum):

Are these Israeli reds in German blue packaging? Is there such a thing as Israeli blue? I have seen someone saying that these are Israeli blue. I always thought these are the Personna Blue. If it is made in Germany then they are the best.

Not interested in the Med Prep. I know how to do hospital corners for the sheets and wash my hands 30x per day. I do not need to be prepped for surgery and shaving my head every day those medical grade devices I do not want to use. This is not brain surgery.

Are these the Israeli reds? Or Personna in a cardboard box?

Super Stainless also says it is Platinum.

This really confuses me. The 10-pack is a plastic case. Platinum chrome super stainless. Personna is red text with platinum in white text, not gold like the above.

These are easy to identify, Blades made in Israel.
1657031632240.png

The 10 and 100 Personna X-series. If I use these I could be as handsome as the guy with perfect eyebrows. Platinum coated.
1657031720209.png
1657031736811.png

These are extra sharp stainless. Comfort coated.
1657031749939.png

These are only for the hair shaper, they are specific proprietary to Personna. There is also a mini hair shaper. These are glide coated.
1657031774858.png

House of Beauty has mini hair shapers and also the 60 count.

Calling all Personna experts. Who has 100-packs of these and can tell the difference?

A newbie thought. When I first started using these I would use for 1-2 shaves and be done with them. Then I could get 3 shaves from them. And now I hear people using for 14 shaves or longer. Worth taking some extra time to figure out what is what.

All wings, report in.

I mentioned the german wilkinson blades, here (in the eu) it is called the "wilkinson classic" and comes in a black plastic tuck with 10 blades each. The packaging is yellow, but I suppose it can be anything depending on the market.
the "gillette wilkinson swords" (saloon pack, or not) are completely different, made and sold in india and china. again 2 different blades.

these are way sharper than astra SPs, smoother (for me) too.

...but this one IS cracked.
Welcome to the most confusing blade manufacturer on Earth take everything I am about to tell you with a pinch of salt because nobody really knows anything about Personna blades.
These are Israeli reds, made in Israel they are more difficult to get hold of since the factory closed down and production moved to Germany. Not used them myself but many swear they are better than the Germans.

German Personnas an excellent blade produced in Germany one of my favourites, long lasting and smooth.
1657031564041.png

Comfort Coated produced in the US, comfort Coated with what, broken glass!

Mystery X there was a PIF of these earlier in the year organised by @Grundi didn't think they were as smooth as the Germans but good blades all the same. Have a look at the thread for other opinions. Med prep, a sharper blade than the Germans a little rough on the first shave, but last longer than the Germans. Usually sold in boxes of 100.
