Personna Blus Lab - Vs - Rapira Voskhod

Personna Blue Lab - Vs - Rapira Voskhod

I was just curious if anyone has tried both and would like to weigh in on there experience. The reviews on both seem to be comparable, as does the price.

Correction:
"I mean just Voskhod, ignore the ref to Rapira ............ Thanks

I'm confused. Do you want us to consider one of the several Rapira varieties, or the Voskhod? There is no "Rapira Voskhod". The Rapira's come in:

Swedish Super Steel
Stainless Steel
Platinum Lux

and a couple others as I recall. The Voskhod and all the Rapira varieties are all made by the same company in Moscow

I have both the Lab's and Voshkod's. I've never purchased Labs, but have about 20 or so that have come in various packages of things I've bought or traded for on the forum, as freebies. I currently have 200 Voshkods that I did buy.

For me, the Labs are just....meh. Sharp but not too smooth. Prone to give me weepers and irritation. They just don't feel right on my face. I will revisit them later. The Voshkods on the other hand are smooth and sharp enough. But they feel so smooth against my skin. Like a sharper, smoother Astra, but not quite as sharp as GSB or Polisilver SI. But, they don't work in EVERY razor I have...but most of them. I put a Voshkod in my R41 and I might as well have waxed my face....it felt that bad. But in every other razor it's a wonderful razor. 3-4 shaves out of every blade.

FYI -Rapira is frequently used as the company name that makes Voskhod, so there is a Voskhod by Rapira. Mostochlegmash JSC is the Parent company. They also make the Ladas

I too prefer the Voskhod over the Personna Lab...definite minority opinion.

I agree, the Voskhod gets my nod, but not by much. The Personna Super, while very sharp, is more likely to give me weepers, particularly on the first shave after recently using other blades.

The only place I've heard the Voskhod referred to as the Rapira Voskhod is on Ebay when the sellers are using a shotgun approach to the name to capture more searches. It may be frequently used elsewhere, but it's incorrect. It's carried over to the forums a couple times that I've noticed but should be discouraged, since it doesn't tell us if the OP wants to talk about the Voskhod or one of the Rapira varieties.

The Voskhod are one of my favorites. I recently bought a 100pack of the lab blues "noW 25% sharper" for around $12. I am on shave #8 with the first blade and got BBS or DFS with little to no irritation. There is lots of discussion about the Personna labs vs med prep. Maybe there are tighter tolerances or additional cleaning involved. The labs do have some oil film on them. I have not tried the med prep version and from one lucky blade of the lab blue I can really make a judgment but at the price I am willing to accept a bad blade in between that I just dump.

I've tried them both and prefer the Voskhod. I really wanted to like the Lab Blues because they are made in the USA. However, I just did not find the Lab Blues to be smooth. They caused me too much razor burn and irritation. I used about 15 blades and ended up doing a PIF for the rest of the box. For me the Voskhod are an ideal balance of sharpness and smoothness. Like all blade related issues, this is highly subjective and personal.

For me the Personna it's sharpest than the Voskhod, but i did get a small nick with the Personna, any way, so far i like the Personna more

Normally a lover of Russian blades I find the Voskhods to be a bit tuggy in comparison to the Personnas.

Vokshod, but not by much. Would take Rapira Platinum Lux or Personna Platinum (reds) over both.

Personna Labs are one of my favorite blades. Voskhod are pretty good too. They both feel smooth to me but Labs feel sharper and last longer. But the only way to know which is better for you is to try both.
