Personna 74 - should I use a mild or aggressive razor?

I just got a pack of NOS Personna 74's in a bunch of stuff from the 'bay. Using them is going to be an experiential thing - they're certainly not going to be my "go to" blade (although legend/tall tale has it that my pack of 5 might last me half a year if I use no other blades). Should I use a mild razor like a Tech, an aggressive one like a Gillette Red Tip, or should I punt and go with an adjustable?

For "calibration" purposes, I've been DE shaving for 40 years, and a user of soap/brushes (albeit Williams soap) on and off for about 35 years. For almost all that time I used a Gillette Super Speed that I bought new back in the '70's, and whatever blade the drugstore had. I only got bit by this bug recently, so I don't have a long track record with all of the choices. For the record, when I experimented with an Adjustable, I was happy using a Shark blade at either "6" or "7".

Suggestions so I enjoy my once in a while flirtation with this legendary blade... Thanks!

there isnt a yes or no answer really..you have to experiment with every razor/blade combo you can find lol..then narrow down the ones that work best for YOU ;-)

Yes, I know - YMMV. Experimenting with different combos is fine and good and what I've been doing *when looking for something I'll be sticking with*. For example, I'll be trying Feathers (and for that matter, Derbys) with both agressive and mild type razors - will a razor that abates the blade's tendencies work better than a razor that enhances them? This answer will be *for me* - others may benefit from my discussion, but no definitive answer exists.

It's a little different with the Personna 74's - this will probably be a one blade trial (I'll put the remainder away for future years), just to experience the blade. I was hoping for suggestions from those who've used it, particularly long-time DE shavers (I'm a little amused by folks who've been using DE razors for all of 3 weeks giving strident pans - or for that matter, raves - about different brands of blades or razors). That's why I put in the "calibration" info.

I have heard of people using those P-74 blades for up to 25 shaves. I am curious as to my two and out beard's reaction to a P-74. However I am not so curious as to pay $5 plus for a single blade. I would be impressed if a blade lasted for 4-5 shaves of my piano-wire beard. Tadas, I think you will be impressed by these blades from their reputation. Please post how they work for you.

I just finished the "One Blade in February Challenge" using a P74 (as I did last year). Those suckers start out wickedly sharp. I say use your Tech for the first week, at least. After that, your Super Speed should be fine, so long as you remember it will still be very sharp!
