PAVAROTTI

Rhody

I'm a Lumberjack.
Thanks for the recommendation
I did follow him in the 70 & 80s
But I've only been to one opera in my lifetime and i pray it was the last.

Twice he was to play here but bailed at the last moment both times, once with ~15,000 seated and waiting, the second, the afternoon of the show.

That behavior was typical of The Big P as Joan Sutherland used to call him. I worked with him professionally and I can’t tell you how many times he canceled for any or no reason.
He did a lot to popularize Opera which is not for everyone but made nessun dorma from Turandot as popular as a pop song. He also had the knack to have audiences eating out of his hand.
I can say when he was having an “on” night he had a brilliant voice which nobody IMHO could surpass.

I was fortunate enough to see him perform live at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, FL in the early 90’s. It’s something I’ll never forget.
