GIVEAWAY! Participation PIF - Rembrandt's Shaving Masterpiece

I decided to try out the Rembrandt blade today. Since I'm used to the '41 Ranger Tech razor I chose it instead of my Muhle R89.

Like others, I saw that the printing on the blade is messed up.

For soap today I chose the Razorock xXx and loaded up my Captains Choice Copper bowl with a good amount in case I needed multiple passes. Brush of choice is my new SOC Boar w/Cherry handle.

I found the Rembrandt blade did a fine job. Today I only did a WTG and XTG shave which turned out great. I'll give todays shave a 9/10.
Thank you @Grundi and @Space_Cadet for the blades.

I asked an AI program to generate a Rembrandt inspired image of a happy gentleman, hoping for a clean shaven one. I got this instead. While not clean shaven, the smile fits me after the shave.

I love the art work

Pre: Shower, Warm water rinse
Blade: Rembrandt Stainless (earned a temporary Rembrandt avatar)
Razor: Gillette Post-War BET
Brush: Zenith Manchurian
Soap: B&M Cologne Russe
Post: Lukewarm water rinse, Thayer's Cucumber Toner WH, Stirling Barbershop PSB

As with most blades I'm not familiar with, my opening shave is with a Gillette of roughly the same vintage as myself (late 1940's).
I'm glad I did. At the start, the Rembrandt had a lot of blade feel, but settled down to smooth about half way through the first pass. After that, it was quite pleasant and efficient. I think @Space_Cadet said the blade was from the mid Sixties? If so then the blade is old enough to file for Social Security, which makes its performance doubly impressive.

With buffing, the final result was right on the edge between BBS and DFS.
There were no nicks, weepers, or post-shave irritation.

Thanks again to @Space_Cadet, and @Grundi!!

I started w the Kai blade :letterk1:
Razor: RR Lupo DC using first open comb last CC.
I had 5+ day growth....
Used Proraso Pre
Soap: Areffa
Brush: Muhle Synthetic small

RR Jaws .84 should have been a better option (but I forgot) had the Lupo available.

First pass: did not really take much. Had to do 2 passes with grain. Then 3rd across , that is when I cut the skin, one clean cut under mandible.

4th pass against.

My opinion: I have never done 4 passes. End result was OK, DFS. Cut stoped bleeding w sciptic pencil .

Next shave will probably be better, if I do it w less growth.
Lets see how it goes

Rembrandt's Shaving Masterpiece - Jan 15, 2025

There is something very satisfying in using a vintage blade in a vintage razor. This blade is a great first-shave blade. Such a nice comfortable and smooth shave using the Rembrandt Super Stainless in a Gillette Tech tonight.

Blade 1 Shave 2 - art for art's sake

Prep with a soaking hot rag then face lathering followed by a pause to allow full hydration. Just 24 hour stubble.

> Gillette New Short Comb, rhodium replate
> Rembrandt-Super stainless made in Holland
> 1976 williams mug menthol (bicentennial special offer)
> Rubberset boar, barely used vintage find
> alum rinsed with witch hazel
> vintage Jeris Lilac Toilet Water light splash

This is one smooth razor, the williams is high tallow, and the sharp Rembrandt fully contributed to another comfortable, very close shave. A great shave from a great era.

Rembrandt - blade 1, shave 1

My first shave with a blade older than me. Huge thanks to @Space_Cadet and @Grundi! I did a traditional three-pass shave. First impressions of the Rembrandt is that it is sharp enough, I didn't get any tugging like I to with blades like the Astra SP. It also didn't feel too sharp, so I think it might be less sharp than a Perma-Sharp. But my face is not a precision measurement instrument.

It was a nice, smooth shave. I wonder what the coatings are on the blade, are there any? Do we know? It seemed too smooth to be bare stainless.

Second shave on the Rembrandt in the black handled SS. Similar prep as last shave - hot soap face wash. Face lathered Bigelow this time. One edge had the same kind of roughness, the other was fine. I felt like I nicked myself once, but no blood was drawn. Finished with "smells like Brut" and then I immediately went out in the cold to take the dog out. It was an experience.

Shave #1 Rembrandt
Gillette Tech Ball-End
Arko

I don't know what happened to my picture so I will have to post one next time.

First I don't know that I would consider this cool vintage blade among the sharpest I have used. I did achieve a good result after two passes and some cleanup but it took more time than I expected with an unused blade.

Where the Rembrandt excels in is with smoothness. The shave was a glide fest from beginning to end in a Gillette Tech and I really didn't bother to make a good lather, nor did I prep much other than a warm shower.

Very enjoyable! I finished off with some Bay Rum aftershave and had a pleasant commute in to work.

Rembrandt Blade #1 Shave #1
Tools: Mamba 0.70 Razor, CRS soap, Lustray Blue Spice Splash.
Got a very smooth two pass shave this A.M. = DFS :thumbup1:
I was Thunderstruck at how smooth & sharp the Rembrandt blade was.
Both sides of the blade were super sharp for around a 60 year old blade.

Rembrandt Blade 1 Shave 2

SLOC
Rembrandt Super Stainless (2)
Simpson Trafalgar
MdC Agrumes
Thayers Witch Hazel
Trumpers Lime Skinfood ( pre and post )

This was a niiiiiiice shave. Very smooth. I semi Marco-methoded the MdC, and lets just say I had plenty of lather. I also, for the first time, used Trumpers skin food as a pre-shave.

I am incredibly pleased with the shave. It's not extremely close, but it was most comfortable and still resulted in a borderline DFS/BBS. I didn't push my buffing, so I left money on the table stubble-wise. I was in a hurry to complete my shave, and I don't blame the blade for that.

Rembrandt Blade #1 2nd shave.
This morning I loaded up the same blade in my '41 Ranger Tech for another shave. I received an order of Tcheung Fung Sing shave soap and decided to use it. It's my first time with this soap.
IMG_4233.jpeg

The shave was preceded with a wash and brief hot towel application. I was careful to pay attention to pressure and angle this morning since it was the 2nd use and I didn't know if I would get pulls and irritation. The blade was nice and smooth and I stopped after WTG/XTG passes. After a rinse, I used my alum block without any burn so I rinsed again, cleaned up my mess and applied Thayer's Facial Toner followed by Floid AS.
Another great shave with the Rembrandt. I usually toss my blades after 2 uses but will use the Rembrandt again tomorrow to see if it holds up.
And another AI Rembrandt inspired image, this time clean shaven. (maybe some chin hair? shadow?)

Have a great day.

Rembrandt Stainless Blade #1-ish - Shave #1

TL;DR -
near vintage shave, razor and blade both older than me, nice combo, DFS+/BBS-

Equipment: Gillette Parat razor, vintage Rembrandt blade (1), Crazy Goat OF Vanilla Oak soap, Captain's Choice bowl

Unwrapping the blade: Foil wrapped yet well preserved!! Like others, the printing on the blade is a bit smudged, yet the blade is great condition, no deterioration!! And the foil wrapping is so unique to this blade!!

Near Vintage Shave: Both the Gillette Parat Razor and the foil wrapped Rembrandt Super Stainless Blade are older than I am; I think this make the shave so much more special!! As I was converting over to DE Shaving, I read the article "Shave Like Your Grandfather"; well, this one might be very close to that!! Crazy Goad OF Vanilla Oak is a great, locally made shaving soap that provided an excellent lather, and the razor and blade produced DFS+/BBS- results. There was some slight tugging on the coarser whiskers, then the blade smoothed out.

Pre: Shower, Warm water rinse
Blade: Rembrandt Stainless, Blade 1, Edge 1, Shave 2
Razor: Gillette Post-War BET
Brush: Simpson Trafalgar T3 synth
Soap: MWF Tallow
Post: Lukewarm water rinse, Thayer's Cucumber Toner WH, Nivea men sensitive PSB

Well, yesterday's face stropping worked wonders. Today's shave was smooth as could be all the way through. Even my most troublesome area, a pinky nail sized spot just below the right rear corner of my jaw, was stubble free by the end of my 2-pass+buffing shave.

With buffing, the final result was BBS-.
There were no nicks, weepers, or post-shave irritation.

Rembrandt Blade #1 Shave #2

Razor - Rockwell 6C(R4)
Blade - Rembrandt Stainless(2)
Brush - Proraso/Omega Boar
Cream - Proraso Red
A/S - Alum, Thayers Facial Toner, Gillette Aftershave Gel
Rating - 8/10 DFS

This wasn't that good. The blade felt a bit tuggy this time, and it took significantly more work than usual to achieve results similar to the first shave.

Blade 1 Shave 3 - just a fairly quick masterpiece

Hot rag face wash with Nabulsi olive oil soap from Nablus in the West Bank. 24 hour stubble. Rembrandt is painting me as a 'vintage daily shaver'.

> Gillette English Flat Bottom Tech
> Rembrandt-Super (3)
> vintage Crabtree & Evelyn soap bowl (first use)
> Rubberset 153 banded boar, found NOS

IMG_6740.jpeg

IMG_6741.jpeg
Aftercare:
> alum rinsed with witch hazel
> vintage Pinaud Lilac Vegetal

Smooth, not day 1 sharp, but going strong. No tugging. I haven't been in the daily shaving groove lately, but the old master is smoothing the path back to regular habits.
