Rembrandt edge 4 shave 1

Gillette Tech, Cyril R Salter Lavender hard soap, Omega S-brush knot in home made handle

Once again this blade starts off effortlessly, and very comfortably. I had my suspicions with edge 3 (same blade), but this time I'm absolutely certain that the shave is less close than with the first blade. Being as I've loaded it up in a Tech, I suspect it's more to do with the razor than the blade.

Based on past performance I'm looking forward to another near-identical shave next, followed by a third with a noticable decline but still worth taking.

Rembrandt Blade #2 - Vintage Shaves #1 - #3

TL;DR -
Stepping back in time, very nice shaves, close but with drama dots

Older-Than-Me Equipment: Gillette New & Gillette Gold Tech razors, Rembrandt blade (3), Vinolia shave stick

Back To The Shave: I'm blessed to have a couple of razors and some shaving soap that pre-date my nativity. Both my grandfather and my dad could have used these - Gillette New razor, Gillette Tech razor, foiled wrapped Rembrandt Super Stainless blade, and Vinolia shave stick. Other than their appearance, I am not able to tell these from their modern equivalents, except for the Vinolia scent, which is a little bit on the chemically side. However, the Vinolia does produce amazing lather, and both razors are very close shavers. The Rembrandt performed very well in both razors, hitting the DFS+/BBS- range. The New is noticeably more aggressive than the Gold Tech and bestowed several weepers upon me.

Pre: Shower, Warm water rinse
Blade: Rembrandt, Blade 2, Shave 1
Razor: ATT Windsor Pro, SB90
Brush: Rubberset 400-3
Soap: PdP 63
Post: Lukewarm water rinse, Thayer's toner WH, Nivea Men Sensitive PSB

I started a new Rembrandt today in a newer razor, the ATT Windsor Pro, SB90 plate. The opening shave with this combo was a very pleasant experience yielding a BBS-.

There were no nicks or post-shave irritation, but I did have one tiny red dot right where my left clavicle joined the sternum. Apparently a small skin tag there got to feeling territorial and argued with the blade. The "injury" was so minor that it was gone after the first wipe during cleanup and it didn't register with the post-shave alum. So I'd give the shave a 9 out of 10.

Rembrandt Stainless- Blade 4, Shave 2

The set up:
Pre-shave: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel/Cremo Coconut Mango Shave Cream
Razor: Schick Krona
Blade: Rembrandt Stainless
Brush: Rudy Vey Custom w/TGN Two-Band
Soap: Provence Sante Verlaine

A positively marvelous shave. Surprised to experience a little stinging on the application of aftershave, but it quickly passed.

Rembrandt blade 3 shave 3

I tried this blade in a Charcoal Goods Gen 1 Level 2 Stinger in brass. This is a blade forward razor. All of my shaves with the Rembrandt have demonstrated a good shave with a blade forward somewhat aggressive razor. And a crappy tuggy shave with a milder neutral blade exposure razor. The shave results with the blade forward razor are good but not great. I would get a better closer shave with a sharper blade. But the comfort and enjoyment is there. The shave results with a blade neutral razor don’t matter, because the shave enjoyment is nil. Tuggy and uncomfortable. But regardless the results with a blade neutral mild razor are poor. This was the first of three Rembrandt blade to go over two shaves. So that is a win for this old blade. I will keep going a bit more with this one. But I am away this week. So if I do shave while on the road, it’ll be with a Kai.

Kai Blade One, Shave #7

Razor:

Brush: Simpsons classic 2 best
Soap: Fine lavender pour homme
Splash: Fine lavender pour homme

Comment: Another very pleasant shave, even if the blade may be ‘slowing‘ a bit (9/10)!! :thumbup1:

Rembrandt Blade #2 - Shave #4

TL;DR -
Mixed a modern soap back, very nice shave, DFS+

Equipment: Gillette Gold Tech razor, Rembrandt blade (4), Crazy Goat OF soap

Back To The Shave: It seems that the Gillette Gold Tech likes just about every blade that I use in it, and the Rembrandt is no exception. Slathering up with Crazy Goad OF soap, the Rembrandt produced a smooth and close shave, right in the DFS+ range. I did have to go over a couple of troubled areas twice. I agree with others who get better results from the Rembrandt with slightly more aggressive razors, however, I very much enjoy shaving with the Gold Tech, even if I have to give up a whisker of closeness.

2 pass shave.....it really was NOT a pleasant shave.....had some resistance (4 days growth). One small weeper. A bit of irritation.
Now, the shave was close and feels smooth.

I don't love this razor; well I had to dig out for it.....but I know this will take any growth w no hesitation.

The blade.....well , it's probably not the sharpest and I have some dense coarse beard (but doesn't everyone think that?). :letterk1: oh and sensitive skin just to make it easier......on what?:eek2: 7/10

Ill try the blade on another, normal razor next time....

Pre: Shower, Warm water rinse
Blade: Rembrandt, Blade 2, Shave 1
Razor: ATT Windsor Pro, SB90
Brush: Semogue SOC Mistura
Soap: Stirling Scots Pine Sheep
Post: Lukewarm water rinse, Thayer's toner WH, Nivea Men Sensitive PSB

Today's shave with this combo was a nice, simple BBS with no effort.
There were no nicks, weepers, or post-shave irritation.

Rembrandt Stainless- Blade 4, Shave 3

The set up:
Pre-shave: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel/Cremo Coconut Mango Shave Cream
Razor: Schick Krona
Blade: Rembrandt Stainless
Brush: Rudy Vey Custom w/TGN Two-Band
Soap: Provence Sante Verlaine

A largely effortless shave with a DFS result. Previous blades crapped out during the third shave, but I'm pushing this one for a fourth and maybe beyond.

Kai Blade #2 Shave #1
Razor - Pre War Tech
Blade - Kai(1)
Brush - Proraso/Omega Boar
Soap - Arko
A/S - Alum, Thayers Facial Toner, Afta Fresh
Rating - 9/10 DFS+

If I'm honest, Kai still isn't my favorite blade, but it's better than I gave it credit for, and it really shines in this razor. Other than a couple of small weepers, the shave itself was relatively uneventful.

Shave #6 - Kai Super Stainless
R89 Clone
Proraso Green Creme

This was a pretty great shave. I'm reminded that even humble gear can soar highly in performance. Two passes, a DFS+ for sure. I'm certain a BBS would have been achieved today if I had gone a third, but no need to overdo it. A very peaceful, meditative session that helped center me for my workday.

These mornings are the reason why I have latched onto wet shaving as a hobby.

Rembrandt Blade #2 - Shave #5

TL;DR -
Auto-pilot shave, Rembrandt is still keeping up, DFS+

Equipment: Gillette Gold Tech razor, Rembrandt blade (5), Crazy Goat OF soap

Back To The Shave: I had one of those shave where you finish up and don't remember much about the shave. Then, you hope that you didn't carve up your face, but, instead, realize that everything went well. Apparently I set things on auto-pilot this morning, and the Rembrandt produced a nice, close shave, right in the DFS+ range.

Space_Cadet

I don't have a funny description.
I can't figure why some are having to struggle with this blade?

You see, in this case it's just a matter of... not sure how to put it... taste? preference? point of view? connection? affinity? prepossession? predilection? propensity?
This is a very important and deep philosophical question that immanently calls for a most serious and intense inquiry.
Why some prefer Vermeer over Hals, while others adore Ruysch, yet aren't at all moved by van Ruisdael? What kind of answer can possibly be given?

Good man! (Perhaps more accurate to say that those old Techs are simply wonderful razors!!) :a29:
