PAL Hollow Ground blades

I recently got my wife's uncle's Black Handle Super Speed. He gave it to me along with a dispenser pack of PAL Hollow Ground blades that had two left in it, and a 5-blade box with three paper wrapped PALs in it. So today I gave one of the PALs a shot. Interesting shave. There was a lot more tactile and auditory feedback than I'm used to with the Red Packs and Greens that I normally use, as well as some minor pulling. I also ended up doing some extra touchup that I normally don't have to do.

I fully expected to feel some slight razor burn or irritation after my shave, and was pleasantly surprised to discover nothing of the sort. I actually had quite a close shave from this blade. I don't believe it's one I'd want to use all the time, but for a "once in a while, use something different" blade it wasn't too bad...

I concur with your findings on the Pall Hollow Ground. I like to try out any vintage blades that I can get my hands on as long as they are corrosion free. Some of them, like Pal, are quite good. I use them from time to time for a switch-up.

Update: Day 2 with the PAL blade was horrible! I had a two day growth, and it felt like the hairs were being ripped out by the roots. I did finish the shave, then trashed the blade immediately...

Sorry to hear the news.I like using the old PALS.Currently have one in my fatty.Hope I find some soon or I'll have to box up my safeties.

I received about 10 with my vintage razor score.. Not sure if I'll use them but they do look new and shiny..

Did you carefully dry that blade after the first shave? If not, it rusted, they are carbon steel and once the oil they are coated with is removed by shaving, rust almost instantly.

This is why stainless blades took over the market so fast in the 60's -- they are not as sharp, but they don't rust into uselessness overnight.

+1! Yep!! SS blades were a huge improvement for most folks!

Those blades were great when new , but it looks like yours must have contacted some edge oxidation.....PAL is back again , with a similar wrapper, horrible blades , real face rippers....
