What's new

Paint on the spine of my dovo.

I recently purchased a dovo genuine bone from emsplace and saw that the etching/spine work on the spine/gold was more of a brown/rust color instead of red like you see in pictures on the internet. Its as if the etching patterns start off slightly red and fade to a rust/brown color towards the top of the spine. Is this normal or did I get one that slipped through quality control? Should I just paint the etchings red?

We need a picture, buddy!

If it doesn't match up with the pictures on whatever website site you bought it from, get in touch with them - I'm sure they'll make it right

here are some pics

Looks ok to me, you can try to exchange it if you're not sattisfied with it. I think the etching is done by laser nowdays and it's pretty shallow so in time it might change shades or even pale out when stropping.. No big deal IMO.

I actually think this is an older razor, as the etchings are deeper and the point is even more round than the typical dovos. I sold the one I had earlier this year and wanted to replace it and looked everywhere for it and somehow stumbled upon empsplace.com (shaveplace.com) and they miraculously still had some in stock. I called to try to get picks and she said that they only had two in stock but we spent over 30 minutes on the phone trying to describe and compare the two razors so I could pick one out. There is literally just one more left on the market and its with that vendor. Glad I was able to snag it.

I can see what you mean. Personally I'm not one for decorated spines - unless you use tape when honing the spine will always get a little scratched in my experience (limited experience but it counts for me!).
If it is an older razor then maybe light has gotten to the paint and leached it - just thinking out loud!

I say 'older' as in I think it may be older stock. I'm guessing emsplace doesn't sell razors at a fast rate compared to other vendors.
