PAA Crimson Ghost Bummer

I've been wanting to try a slant so I cruised over to the auction site and found a Crimson Ghost. It came in about thirty minutes ago so I put a blade in it and started looking it over. There was a kind of wave in the center of one edge that looked weird so I started to loosen the handle so I could try and sort it out and the whole top cap disintegrated in my hand. I've watched a bunch of videos on these razors and I was aware of using a light touch snugging the handle down so I don't think I caused it. I have sent a message to the seller since this was listed as a new razor. If I'm out of luck on that end, have any of you had luck buying replacement parts from PAA?

That sucks, man. My filament is a surprisingly good shaver. I prefer it to the Fatip open slant for several reasons, and it is fun to see the printing on the blade through the cap.

I am going to be careful with mine now.

The glow in the dark fantasma is back in stock, so you've got that going for you.

Before I understood the light touch needed when securing the cap on my Filiment, I torqued it down probably a bit too much and put some cracks in the cap. I sent a photo of it to PAA, and they replaced it (the whole razor) FOC. I know some people don't like the guy, and I dont wamt to start that up again, but I have enjoyed good customer service from him.

My Filament's top cap is cracked. PAA offered to replace it and I declinded as it's still useable. I won't send it in until it fails. I was a little offended, however, when they said it was caused from over-tightening. I know better. I was the guy doing the tightening. Talking to customers like they are ignorant mouth breathers is not a good business strategy. In my line of work we torque fasteners in inch pounds. So I know a little something about how to tighten threaded fasteners. But no muss, no fuss. I'll keep using the Filament until the top cap explodes. For now it's just three spiderweb cracks. After the Filament top cap cracked, I've started backing off all of my Monster series PAA razors right after the shave so there's no stress left on the top cap, plus it helps the blade to dry better. Haven't had any more top caps crack.

I'd a similar experience with my PAA Filament:

I emailed PAA and the said they'd replace the head and they sent me a brand new complete razor: all quite quick and simple really. I'm not fond of how this razor shaves. I find it too agressive for my skin regardless of what blade I use. I got it in the hope it would allow me shave with less passes on my very sensitive neck and perhaps be a good shave for my dome. Sadly, nope on all accounts. My technique (lather development and razor) has improved in the last year of returning to DE wet shaving. This combined with the NLC and NSC and a good blade for me and I'm off to the races as it were.

I PIF'd the cracked one to a newbie member. The new one sits BNIB: still deciding what to do with it.

I think the forumulation of the plastic that is used is too soft for its intended purpose. There are other plastics that might do better all around. Like others who have had this issue, I am very careful to not overtighten anything. Even my vintage Gillettes I take great care with: sometimes having the head unscrew a bit while I'm shaving. I certainly wouldn't call that aggressive tightening.

My 2p for what it's worth.
