P 51 does not write.

I have a Parker 51 aerometric, that draws ink and when I press the filler bar it expresses ink in a stream. The problem is that it will not write. Any suggestions as to how to correct it. Thanks for your help.

Start soaking and we'll wait for Brian. Those collectors have a lot of surface area and hold a lot of dried ink.

Yes Nemo you are correct. The collectors hold a ton of ink.

Does it start and stop writing or not write at all?

After two days of soaking and two days of drying I inked it with Benevolent Badger Blue last night. It wrote OK when I tried it after inking , but this morning it will not write at all even with pressing the filler bar to get ink to the point of the nib.

I have had problems with BBB drying out and clogging some pens. I get the best results from it when I use it to eyedropper fill a Preppy with a .5 nib.
I would empty the 51 and thoroughly flush it again.

Out of curiosity, what other inks have you tried with this pen? Maybe something more like Parker ink just for grins. It's what I use as a standard to check flow. Quink blue.

Pretty close but Quink takes it by a hair. Waterman Florida blue is free-flowing too.

If it clogs with with quink, then you have a severely clogged collector or the breather tube is bad. To me it is starting to sound like a breather tube as it doesn't squirt ink when you press the filler bar. Sounds like the is no ink coming to the sac, just the collector

When I press the filler bar it will shoot ink with no problem. What I meant was that I was trying to flood the collector by lightly pressing the filler bar and getting ink to bubble around the feed, which it did and still wouldn't write.

When the same thing happened to mine I had to disassemble it and get all of the old ink out that had clogged it up. Listen to Brian, he is the one that talked me through it.

I recently got a 51 aero that fills and writes like a dream for a day then seems to run out of ink. I refilled it and it writes great again. Do I have the same problem?

If you have a dry writer there are several causes. The first is a bunch or even a bit of dried ink between the nib and the collector. Several good soaks and flushes will help. 2nd cause can be the breather tube in the aero filler is shot. Easy fix is to flush the pens and soak a bunch. If it is not helping then you can bite the bullet and send off to get it fixed/cleaned or......do it yourself. 51's are actually a very simple pen to flush and fix. You will need to get the hood off which will take a bit of heat with a hair dryer (don't let pen get hotter than warm to touch) and unscrew with gentle pressure using a spark plug wrench . Take out the nib and feed after a soak, also the section. Give a good soak and look at the breather tube. Replace if not in good shape. A good replacement is the thin tube from a dust off can or wd40 (not used) that can be trimmed and beveled to fit the feed. Realign, button up the hood, using a bit of shellac on the threads of the hood and I mean just a bit, and you are good to go. Also take a look at the aero sac to make sure there is not a pinhole leak. Rare but it does happen. $get-attachment.aspx.jpg$get-attachment.aspx.jpg As you look at the collector, you can see where ink can dry and collect and why it may not get clean without disassembly.. You can also see the breather tube. I included a shot of the plyglas sac, rarely do they go bad.
Cheers,
Rob
