P.160 vs Cella

I ordered a sample of both P.160 Tipo Morbido and Tipo Duro and received them last week and have had a chance to use both several times now. Both lathered and performed well, but the Morbido's scent was a little more pleasing to my nose. Not sure why this is because I thought both were the same just one was a softer soap formula than the other.

What I have learned from this is that I prefer Cella.

Wanted to see what others that have tried both have to say?

Interesting.

IMO,

1. I prefer the scent of P.160. hands down.

2. I seem to experience easier lathering with P.160

3. P.160 is usually cheaper

4. They shave similarly, though. Pretty much a tie, performance-wise.

YMMV

I really like both. The scent is a bit different as the Cella has a more natural almond scent and the P.160 a sweeter marzipan-type scent. Both lather easily and give me a great shave. Given the low price point on them, especially when bought in the 1 kilo size, they are something I plan on keeping in my rotation.

And I think that is why I like the scent of Cella over P.160, but like you with both performing very well and the low price point of both I see me keeping them both in my rotation, but only buying the Morbido version in the future.

My only concern about P.160 is that Cella has the better marketing and distribution. In Italy, where I think most of it is sold, it is only used by barbers and they are a dying race. I hate liking a product and then coming to learn that it's been discontinued. When I buy a kilo, it lasts me almost 2 years. I decided to place my bet on Cella because I think that it's more likely to be around in 2 years when I buy my next kilo.

In performance they are very close (and very good). I think I prefer P.160 but not by much.

When both my 1kg bricks were new I prefered the scent of Cella; the P.160 was nice but maybe a little too sweet. But now both bricks have aged I think Cella is just ok and the calmed down P.160 scent is great. So both in scent and performance I prefer the P.160 but I still enjoy Cella's qualities, don't worry!

Indeed, the P160 is a barber only product, however Elberel also makes the Almond scented Fitness for the retail market. Fitness does not seem to get much attention. Figaro resembles Fitness but I think it is manufactured by someone else.

Barbash,

I use Cella & P160 Morbido; I prefer the Cella slightly more, as I feel it has a bit more slip, but it is a very, very close call. Both are superb :001_smile

With Tabac, these are my goto soaps.

Have fun !

Best regards

I am biased when it comes to Italian soaps.
I simply adore them.

The English three T's to me are very good but very artifical in their fragrance and indeed ingredients and are pretty mediocre to poor when it comes to skin moisturizing.

I rate the big three Italians; Cella, P160 and Valobra, as nothing short of superb.
I have a few other Italian soaps in my collection but the three Italians are my number one's and as such are my high rotation soaps.

To rate them is almost impossible however if I had to I would say.....
1. P.160 ( the scent of brandied cherries and almonds - OMG ! )
2. Both Cella and Valobra occupy 2nd place.

I could very happily live out the rest of my days with any of them.

What is the difference between P.160 Morbido and Duro?

The Recipe is identical. The ratio of ingredients is slightly changed to make the Morbido a little softer than the Duro. The Duro is like a mold-able putty.

I love both just the same and think they are the same in performance except for the area in slickness. IMO the P160 is slicker.

Besides the scent and one being softer, any other difference between Morbido and Duro performance wise? Which one is as soft as Cella?

Morbido. Duro is not really moldable contrary to what is suggested above, but I am under the impression that some vendors get their products mixed up. Or that people have inhuman strength in their fingers. I needed a rolling pin to flatten Duro; so in fact you need to grate it.

As for the original question: I cannot tolerate the sweet almond fragrance in P.160 (Col. Conk Almond is out for me as well because of this), so if I want to shave with anything it has to be Cella, and that product proved to be too thick for comfort. I can understand why people rave about the products, though.

I am not Superman but the Duro needs not that much effort to fold into a mug; when you take thin (1cm/ 0.4 inch) slices it is no problem molding them with your hands at all.

I've had the same experience.

Someone could see in to the future.

Cella, P.160 and Valobra are the very best soaps of the great Italian Barbershop tradition, no doubt. I wrote several reviews on both Cella and Valobra and, intentionally, avoided writing one about P.160. I was too angry and upset when I got the info that P.160 was no longer produced. I simply place these "big three" on the same high level, although slightly different one from the other. I am somehow more devoted to Cella, but not for the superior performance compared to P.160 and Valobra, just for personal sentimental reasons as I wrote on my threat "Cella, Crema Sapone Extra Extra Purissima" (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=157399).
