What's new

Out of the loop

Yo!!

I've been wet shaving for about 5 years or so and have become pretty comfortable in what I do. All the while I have been using cream. I started with Proraso and eventually moved to C.O. Bigelow since it was cheaper and purchased locally. Recently I switched to soap. However I still use what's left of my last tube of Bigelow now and again. Since switching to soap for some reason I am not that thrilled with the Bigelow scent or the menthol. I still want to use cream in addition to soap and switch up here and there but feel bigelow just doesn't do it for me anymore as far as scent goes.

I hesitated to ask this because I know the answers would run all over the place but...

Keep in mind that I loved Bigelow because of the $10 price. If I have to spend more money plus shipping and handling then that isn't what I'm looking for. I am looking for something as good as Proraso/C.O. Bigelow for close to the same price. Product plus S&H $15 or the very most $20,

some 'value' creams i thoroughly enjoy are
palmolive - currently $7 at italianbarber, super moisturizing
jm fraser - smells like lemons, super moisturizing my fav cream
speick - natural
godrej - super cheap but contains lanolin, which irritates some

Maybe try an Indian Grocer locally for some Old Spice shaving cream. Long lasting tube and bursting with lots of rich lather and also very inexpensive. There is Crabtree & Evelyn shaving cream in tubes or tub that are available locally if these shops are nearby you. I love their Nomad and Sienna and Sandalwood creams. Not that expensive too and keep an eye for their store specials too.

Local you can find Kiss My Face.

Stick your zip code into the Kiss My Face store locator to find a retailer near you and grab a tube ($5) or pump bottle ($8) of any scent.

These are amazing creams and one of the easiest to lather. They are sold as "brushless" but stick a brush to it and you will have a lava flow of slick, luxurious, lather to use.

You may also be able to find RS (Real Shaving Company) cream locally (call around to bed bath and beyond and bath and body works if they are near you). If you can find it, GRAB it. They make some of the BIG name English shaving creams in their British factory and their own brand is killer and inexpensive too.

Cella, was on sale today at ItalianBarber for $10. It is an Italian soft cream/soap (aka croap) that comes in a tub. Smells like amaretto (almond/cherry). It is often listed among members' favorites.

I also suggest you read through the Reviews of shaving creams on this site.

Either stick with the soap or try the other three varieties of Proraso (Red, White, Blue).

Thanks,
Mike

I've used Kiss My Face before and actually I use that for my head shaving. I just wanted something a little more exciting and better scented. But KMF is great and lathers up nice with a brush.
RS (Real Shaving Company)... This looks interesting. I've never seen it. I'll have to look into it.

You can get a bar of Mike's for around $15 shipped. It is by far my favorite soap.

I have Mike's soap. I was looking for a replacement for my cream. Although i've been using soap I like to switch up here and there.

I just realized that these are fairly cheap, Actually I never even knew they existed until recently I've really been out of the loop man...I'm telling ya! :blushing:

I think I might order some of that Red. I think it will be under $15 shipped. I've seen it for $9.

Now I need to decide on tub or tube! :biggrin1:

Thanks for the suggestions.

Proraso Red gets the most use in my rotation. I like the shea butter in it and the mild Sandalwood scent. I recently tried Musgo Real Orange/Amber. It lathers well and has a good, clean scent. When the Orange/Amber runs low I'll try some of the other scents and Proraso Blue is on my list to try also.

I shaved with RR this morning and even though it's been a while since I purchased it I remember their prices being a very good value.

You may want to post what city you are in . I'm sure there is somebody that could point you to a local source . I know that I had just found a place here in Santa Cruz that sells Musgo Real .

I just ordered Proraso Red from "Italian Barber." It was on sale for $6.99 so I couldn't pass it up.
