What's new

Out of Curiosity...anyone here in Insurance?

Use to sell insurance. When the economy went south and the leads started drying up, I was let go (even though I was always in the top 20%) for guys who had more seniority. Now I work retail.

Awesome. Recent changes have caused me to attempt to land a new career. After much debating and deciphering and so forth, I decided to take a dear friend up on an offer and accept a position at his office as an insurance sales agent. I'm in the middle of studying for my license as we speak.

Good to know there are a few more people here on the board.

I'll be joining as a partner in the agency it seems. Looking forward to a rewarding career.

A good friend of my Father's talked me into getting my license when I retired from the Marines 9 years ago. He told me the secret to success was a supply of prospects who wanted and could afford what you were selling and he could provide those people. I only sold small final expense policys that Even I could understand. I did it for about 1 1/2 years in the field and occasionally helped a friend get started. I stopped with 4 states: Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Florida. Anyone contracted with Lincoln Heritage Life in those states are my agents, (small override from Universal benefits, SC and Senior life, GA) both way larger than us. Always said I'd rather be lucky than good:001_rolle

Sounds fun. What are you doing now? Was insurance rewarding for you?

Raising 2 12 year old girls:eek:
Finacial rewards are, well lets just say unbelievable and grow every day. I worked 1 1/2 years in the field, (runnign apts) another about 2 years helping good agents I'd run across set up there agency and now I raise my Granddaughter and her best friend which we adopted last month. This after retiring after 32 years, USMC CO6. (google that). Working in insurance actively 3 1/2 years half heartedly yields an income over twice that of my retirement today. As younger agents hire more agents for there agency's it grows and that income will be inherited by my family forever.

Very interesting and comforting. This change has been "confirmed", if you will, in many ways thus far. I really appreciate hearing of your rewards. Congrats on what you are doing now. Kids are more fun than work. Thanks for your service as well. My father retired USAF. I guess he did enough for both of us as I didn't follow in the footsteps. I will likely be opening offices and getting agents started as well before it is all over with.

Good luck. Work hard, associate yourself with an honorable company and help friends, (new and old) that have your work ethic get started.
