OUMO Brush Experience - Badger & Synthetic

Tim what does the 'WT' mean in the knot name?
It's White Tip. WT is OUMO's budget SHD knot because it has mixed hair with it instead of just pure 2-band bristles. I actually enjoy it a lot because it has more scrub and feel than the handmaster knots.

Here's a full rundown of all the different knots.

I know my knots took a while and almost didn't get them due to customs. It took about a month but I did get it in the end. Opening the dispute is probably the safe way to approach it. If you don't get the knots then ask for refund. But couple of the shipments that I ordered arrived safely so it might be just taking its sweet old time.

I did get a refund on my knots.

I could have been patient and waited longer. But I received an email from Aliexpress saying they were closing my order, because the delivery date had passed and they hoped I enjoyed the products. I was afraid I’d lose their purchase protection, so I opened the dispute.

Oumo did not respond in the time allotted, so AE refunded.

Glad you got the refund back. The disputes usually go well as long as you explain it straight and do it timely.

Nice looking knots and handles. Odd that the knot is described as a Chubby rather than the handle. The handle on page 1 most closely resembles a Simpson M6 I think which is a very nice brush and less common that the M7. I am not buying any more brushes in 2020!

@Timeclo I like more scrub as well and I'd go for the WT.
Can you compare it for face feel to some other brushes you may have.
Yes, if you like a bit more scrub, WT will be a good option. In terms of face feel, it feels similar to a boar brush except with a bit more backbone and fuller face feel. I'd say it's also similar to Yaqi 2-band badgers, giving a good scrub while being comfortable.

well if it's similar to Yaqi two-band that's great, that knot is quality even if it's set up too high for my taste.
This OUMO WT is going to be set deep with the loft no taller than 48mm.

How do these compare to say, SOC 2-bands?

Great feedback. I have the manchurian bulb knot and it is very luxury. I am curious to try their WT model, just don't want any scratch feeling.

If I was going for a 28mm knot, what loft would you suggest me?

I'd say 50-52mm would be good. Their WT model is slightly scrubby but still relatively comfortable on the face.

As for the 24mm Boss knot brush, it's quite the scritchy one. I tried face lathering with it once and it gave me some brush burns over my face. It's one of the synthetics that has too much scritch for my taste. I'll pass it on for others that prefers the scritchy brush with a rougher skin.
I was just thinking that amber resin handle could be a nice match with an Omega boar knot. Say an Omega 10066 -- great knot but cheap handle. Transplant that knot to the amber resin handle and it could be a great combo.

The handle looks nice and feels ergonomic as well. Omega 10066 is a great knot and I do agree the handle is a bit light and cheap.

One thing about Oumo store, they hand-make the some of the brush handles and can be different from the picture on the site. Personally, my handle looked a bit darker than the one listed on the site. It wasn't a big difference but I know for some people, there were some big differences. Perhaps you can confirm with them the picture of what you're actually buying because it may differ from the picture on the site.

Their SHD knots, though, have been excellent every time. I would get one for their soft and massaging face feel.

Thanks for all the info in this thread. I am curious which of the Oumo knots acts the least as a lather hog. (That's what I would want.) I had been leaning towards the Handmaster, but it does seem to retain lather?

No problem. In my experience, all of the SHD knots doesn't hog lather as long as you knot them deep enough. I'd say nothing more than 52mm loft. I had my handmaster lofted at 55mm and it was a lather hog for sure. In terms of performance, the Manchuria seems to be the best but there's only a slight difference between that and Handmaster. The WT performs well but slightly more scrubby than the other two.

Mine arrived yesterday and I washed it with shampoo, a test lather left on the knot for 1/2 hour, soaking for a couple of hours with a little bit of apple vinegar, distilled water and a hint of baking soda.

I tried it today, will wait for a week or so for a small review, but the first impressions were great.
