Options for upgrading razor.

Hello, I was wondering what razors I can upgrade to that would be more agressive. Currently I have a Merkur 33c that I have been using for the past few years now but I find it is too gentle a shave or me. I was wondering what viable upgrades for aggressiveness there are available.

Merkur HD 34c is a little more agressive and an awesome razor. Been my daily shaver for months now. At present am using a Merkur 15c open comb which I find pretty mild but gives great smooth shaves with no irritation (might become a big fan of open combs). I'm sure you will get many different replies with many different razor suggestions.

I had a similar experience with an Edwin Jagger DE89, and upgraded to Muhle R41. While it's a LOT more aggressive in terms of how much blade you can feel on your face, I don't find it any easier to nick myself. It really took my shave to a whole new level.

The best way to make a razor more aggressive is to experiment with different blades, until you find a blade that is most aggressive in your razor. Typically that might be a Feather blade.

Have you ever tried shimming your 33C? One or two shims may awaken your razor and turn it into a much better shaver for no cost at all! Good luck.

You could always try a Merkur Progress. Adjustable razors are great because you can dial the razor in until it's just right.

You could consider a slant, say the Merkur 37C. I would echo the comment on the Progress. You could spend many months with all the options that razor gives.

Might I suggest the Gillette Slim Adjustable. Great razor and gives you the option of how mild or agressive you want it to be. There are plenty of them out there and they come at a pretty reasonable price.

I am actually finding lately that the more aggressive razors are smoother and don't burn/nick hardly at all. I was using a Gillette NEW but have been using my Gillette Red-Tip SS lately and getting better shaves (although that could change like it has before). You should be able to find a user-grade Red-Tip for less than $25-$30 on the bay if you are careful in bidding (I was actually PIFed mine from a nice B&B member, thanks to that member it is much appreciated). From what I have been able to gather the Futur is the most aggressive even on its least aggressive setting but that razor is $80 plus new and rare to find used. I have not used a Futur to know how it would work out on my face so I can't give an opinion either way.

I just realized I never actually posted back here thanking everybody for their advice. Thank you all for your advice. I looked into shimming and that is just not something I am comfortable doing. I thought about getting an adjustable razor but the heads looked a little to big for my face. I decided to get an R41, though I haven't received it yet. Again thanks everyone.

A Merkur Slant 39C is a great razor... I have read a lot about these, and was sorta scared when I used mine for the first time. However, I get great shaves from it and I'm less likely to nick myself with it than I am my Jagger 86.

+1000 on this. Everyone should have one these in their arsenal.
