Opinions on Gillette Single-Rings as shavers?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that while modern blades would fit these razors, they weren't really compatible because the older ones used thicker blades. I don't mind getting a beat-up example to try it, but I thought I'd ask the experts first.

I'm no expert but I have a number of old type Gillettes in the rotation (ABCs, a single ring, and occassionally a double ring) - I get very nice shaves with these razors using modern blades!

With these razors, I call to mind my newbie rules: no pressure, mind the angle.


Do not fear the old timers!
