What's new

Opinions/ Experience?

Called Pen's and the lady who answered advised me this is "100% Badger-hair". No idea what the official grade is, but she cited a customer who came in recently for a replacement after 20yrs, as his was gettting "A bit worn". Sounds good.

Sounds inconclusive.

You need to see and feel the brush to determine its right for you.

I strongly suspect that you could buy an equivalent quality brush (in terms of the knot) for less money. Also, the metal handles can get hot.

It is a nice looking brush, but I'd want to handle it before buying given that you've got no sense of what the knot is like.

I handled it and it seems nice, soft and without jaggy tips, but I've developed the habit of running my purchases by the forum if I'm at all unsure, as there is such a wealth of knowdege out there. I'm pretty sure they're not made by Pens themselves; was hoping they were a high-ender in disguise. You're right, tho, there is a lot of brushes out there for that kind of money. I'm just getting sick of having to buy everything online!

It looks like a nice brush, and if you can handle it before you buy than its even better. I would guess this is and Edwin Jagger brush. I can only base this on how the knot looks, and I know they make brushes for other companies. I suppose its not a very conclusive guess. I would go for it if you like the brush.

A Men-U boar, still being broken in and a Vulfix VS5 which is broken-in. I did have an EJ Super medium, which was a bit too floppy and I've also got a 406 Pure, which is ok but I'm giving it to my brother. I suppose I really can't go wrong with a Kent H8, which is my fall-back from John Lewis, but I liked the heavy compactness of the Pen' and I'm sure its not a bad brush. Will go out, make a decision and put a review up. Thanks for the replies :)

Addendum 8.5.09:-
I eventually wimped out and bought a Kent H8 today! When it came down to it, I didn't want to spend £50 on an unknown quantity when I don't actually have a good-quality badger. Will update the review section. Thanks for listening......
