Open comb vs bar... thoughts?

I've got 2 Tech's (new Lord and 38-41 Gillette), and just bought a Cosmo Travel Razor off the B/S/T. Having never used an open comb before, I don't know how much trouble I'm getting myself into... but it seems like the open comb is the more popular style anyways.

Besides the obvious, what's the difference between an open comb and a bar when it comes down to actually using it?

The only way to find out is shave with it and see.

I don't know that there is a consistent difference between open comb razors and straight bar razors. From experience I can tell you the Merkur open comb (12C?) tore me up, yet the Gillette New open comb is one of my all time favorites. I suspect you'll just need to indulge your inner RAD and buy a few to find out for yourself.

Happy shaving.....

My open combs do not clog easily. It is very easy to find the right angle for shaving (no teeth marks in the lather). And last but not least: they give an awesome shave. I have tried closed bar and slant, but open comb comes out best for me.

Agreed. Open combs do not clog, even with days of growth.

I seem to reach more and more for my open combs these days too. I have the Mühle R41, Gillette NEW short and long open comb. Just had a great shave this morning with the NEW short.
