One razor, one blade

I keep having premature buyer's remorse when it comes to buying blades. I only have one razor, a Merkur HD 38C Blue Barber Pole. I thought I had used up every blade that came in my starter kit, but then I found two Derby's (which I don't like) left in the 5 pack and one blade I've never heard of. The time for procrastination is over.

I keep reading (in addition to YMMV) when it comes to blade preference that different razors work better with different blades. So for those with a razor like mine, what have you found works best?

I'd try the USA-made Personna Labs or Meds. In a world of YMMV, these get a pretty good reaction from a majority across the boards. I think AsSPlats are also a good selection. The Merkur Barber Pole is a fine proving ground, IMO.

I didn't feel like trying out a bunch of razor blades either and went ahead and ordered a box of 100 Astra SP's and they have worked well for me.

I don't have your razor but I do have 3 different Gillette models (adjustable, fixed and open comb) and the Astra SP works fine (for me) in all those.

Feather and Derby seem to be the one's that people either like or don't like. I've not heard of many people not liking Astra SP's (as well as some others).

I wouldn't recommend fixating too much on finding THE perfect blade. You'll probably find that the ROI drops after sampling blades to a certain point.

I used Feathers with the 38C. The point of the sampler is to find what works best for you and your DE. Polling won't tell you anything other than what's popular.
