Once Bitten

Two mornings ago, I woke up early, looking forward to a great shave. I took a pre-shave shower, stropped up the Dovo, lathered up a beautiful bowl of Tabac, and went to town. It was smooth and comfortable. I was finally getting a decent shave with the straight. Just as I was wrapping up, getting the final corner of my chin, slice. It bled like a stuck hog. And it was deep. I doused it in syptic pencil and it still bled so I had to resort to direct pressure.

This is a photo from the following morning.

As I was applying pressure waiting for the flow to stop, I squeezed my Semogue SOC boar into the towel and shook it out before hanging it up. Lo and behold, the knot fell out when I shook it. A great morning turned into a terrible morning in no time flat.

I'm sure straight shaving isn't for everybody, I'm thinking I'm one of those people.

Ugh! Tough morning, man. Luckily, the cut will probably heal up if you take good care of it, and as long as the knot isn't damaged, you should be able to epoxy it back in.

The knot came out pretty clean and I do have a backup SOC so the brush was just an annoyance on top of the bloodbath. I've been keeping the cut packed with triple antibiotics hoping it won't scar.

Holy Cow Chad, that's a hell of a cut...maybe it looks worse than it is

Look, all of us cut ourselves from time to time with a straight razor, it's the nature of the beast. Don't give up so fast. Get right back up on that horse and ride it. That's an order! <LOL>

If you want to throw in the towel, I can dispose of the straight razor for you...what are friends for?:a24:

Welcome to the chin scar club. I have been straight shaving well over a year, and it has not held me back. keep on trying. It does get better.

Had that too, not quite that big. Usually happens when you are in the groove and are not paying attention.

nicked myself (on the chin) 24 hours ago

looked worse then when it happened...about a 1/16" or better deep. I hit it with a liquid styptic cotton swab type stick then bandaged it...thought I would have to sit shaving out for a day but I'm getting ready to heat a towel now

Like many here - been there done that.
The cut will heal, so will the ego. .. the blood is bad enough, explaining to other people makes it seems worse.
Personally - I'm glad I kept with using a straight.
Every now and then I nick myself - got a bite from a spike not long ago, on my earlobe of all places. It happens.

Ouch. Sorry to hear about a bad bleeder. The good news I gleamed from this story is that "It was smooth and comfortable. I was finally getting a decent shave with the straight." Skin heals. A good blood letting is healthy.
