Omega 49 Problem

I bought this a while back as my first (and only) boar. I have to say that after the pig stink was out and it broke in, I love this brush! After owning it for over a year and using it twice per week as part of my brush rotation, it seems to have developed a crack in the handle. The crack starts up by the knot and goes almost half way to the base. So far, it is not large enough that I can squeeze the crack shut, nor is it causing any problems with the performance. I've had this happen with one other brush, but it was a used vintage manufactured in the early '60s (also a plastic handle). Neither of these have had hair loss. The Omega dries standing on it's base, while the vintage dries hair down in a stand.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is this a manufacturing defect or is my technique stressing the handle?

I believe that it is a common enough fault with these brushes and was mentioned when we conducted the Omega edition of our Brush Chronicles. You can read more about it here.
