Old Type Ball Handles

I have the opportunity to buy two silver old type ball handles for 9.00 total. Both have hairline cracks but no bent teeth and will shine up well. Should I jump on it?

Less important question: If the handle ever cracks enough to come apart from the ball end or head, can the pieces be epoxied back together. Will the epoxy hold?

If so, with no bent teeth and the potential to shine up nicely for 9 bucks, sure, why not? I would. Where did you see this again?

The old types are good shavers. I have two myself.

Epoxy is the recommended solution here - but there are folks here who can also re-plate the head for you as well as make you a nice matching handle.

Or, you could post them in the BST after you clean them. With no bent teeth you shouldn't have much trouble moving them.

Cracks are easily fixed. A little marine epoxy and all is good. As mentioned above, you can always replate.

Either grab them, or PM me a link/location so that I can grab them. I shave with a ball end old type, and I love it. Mine is about as ugly as you can imagine, but it is super low maintenance because of that.

The cracks are so ubiquitous with the Old Types that they are almost expected. As long as everything is secure, then you're fine. They shouldn't worsen if you are careful not to over-tighten the head. But even if something does come loose, they can be epoxied. $9 for two is a good price.

After asking about cracks, his reply was, "Wow, you're right! It's a hairline crack but it's there. I have a second one with a similar crack, I'll sell both of them to you for $5."
With shipping it came to just under $10! I'm hoping they polish up nicely.

So I am assuming that since the serial number is listed as "H381971" then this is a 1918 made just before the war sets went into production. Am I correct?
