What's new

Old Spice still making cream in a can

I was at Albertsons the other day and came across a new bottle of Old Spice shaving cream in a can. I thought they discontinued that horrid product. I know it was new because it had the newer ship logo on the can, rather than the one I have with a yacht. It sells for about the same price as Gillette Foamy, but I know for a fact that it is useless as a shaving cream, unless they beefed up their product. I'm not going to pay the $1.50 to find out though, Old Spice has lost me as a customer for everything except their Original Deodorant.

Made under contract in Canada.

Dry, stiff foam. Almost like cotton candy. Or foam insulation.

Has the merest hint of OS scent. Kind of like when they filled the can, somebody was thinking about OS, but they got distracted.

It's not my favorite product.

Perhaps it makes a good insulation.

Hiya,

Every once in a while I'll get some of this stuff out as a special treat. The shaving cream is part of a NOS two piece set that I lucked into years ago.

The performance is surprisingly good....at least as good as many melt and pours from small vendors. It's an extremely thick lather, and just a small amount is needed when applying. The lather is slick and has plenty of cushion, and the post shave skin care is better than average.

The scent is quite pronounced and very bright and fresh smelling. There's even a faint clove note in this cream that I haven't found with other OS items. I actually prefer it to most of the other vintage OS aftershaves and colognes I've tried. This was a very pleasant surprise when I first used it.

Hope you like the picture of something still going strong that was made between 1956-62.

Martin .

It's getting more difficult to find OS shave cream in the can. My dad loves the stuff and is nearly out. Anybody in the SW Missouri area see any at the brick & mortars?

The Lather Maestro
Well, if you are itching to try a canned foam, this is back in production now. I saw it at Merz in Chicago last weekend. I used this for probably 15 years until they discontinued it a long time ago. I'm not sure that I'll try it now that I'm using soaps and creams, but it was, far and away, the best canned shaving foam made. Nobody else ever came close.

Now, let's hope this is the original recipe and they don't embarrass me for saying that.

The only Old Spice cream that's any good is the lather cream from India. I have the fresh lime and original. Both work equally well.

^^^Yes, ebay is your best bet. Most vendors ship for free from India and the OS creams/aftershaves are reasonably priced. Just ordered the OS lime cream & aftershave.

Get that stuff from India while it lasts. My understanding is that P&G have discontinued it's relationship with the company that produced that stuff and it is out of production.
