This is going to be an unusual question. I got what appears to be a rather old 30 ml bottle of BB from EBay, nearly, not quite full. I had only had a 1.5 ml sample of BB before and loved it. I have never had a fragrance grow on me as this one did, however, the sample was small.
However, this bottle seems to have more of a cigarette smoke forward note on dry down. Is this the pepper that others describe or is something off with this bottle because of the age? I would say that it has lost some of the citrus forwardness in the top notes, but that part is still very nice and very much the BB as I recall from the sample. And I am not saying that this dry down note is necessarily unpleasant. It is a sort of earthy, leathery, and masculine note, that I think I have picked up in other edts, it just seems more forward here, and I do not remember it so much from the sample.
I do not want to talk myself in coming to like something that is really not supposed to be there and has come in because the edt has gone South with age.
No matter what, I love the glass stoppered bottle with the raised letters in the glass! Wonder how old this really is. Maybe Pen's changed its formula in the years in between, too. I am sure that modern BB is not exactly what Pen's was making long ago. as much as I wish that were so.
I know there are lots of BB fans out there! Thoughts?
