Ok - why do you not like face lathering

I have face lathered several times and I enjoyed it, but I strongly prefer bowl lathering

-I can make more lather at one time with a bowl
-im less likely to make a mess because the lather is better contained
-I feel like I can better see and control the consistency of the lather
-I don't like the feeling of rubbing a shave stick on my face
-my lather is more consistent from one pass to the next.
-I do a 3 pass shave, occasionally wih some touch-ups. I also lather then rnsewith cold water as the last step of my prep. I lather once more after I'm done shaving cause it makes my skin fel good, soi need enough lather for 5 applications.

Ths his has been my experience and my preferences. Others will vary. Do what you like better. Don't believe anyone who tells you one way or the other offers some inherent advantages and is therefore THE right way. It all comes down to personal preference

I do like it. But if you don't, you don't need to defend yourself ... it's your shave, so do what works best for you!

I suppose I have never fully understood why anyone would try to do the entire job of building the lather directly on the face. It seems that even the bowl lather folks do a lot more than paint on pre-bowled lather. If that was all there was to it why worry about the characteristics of your shaving brush so much? I enjoy the feel and amount of massage and exfoliation after I have built a decent amount of lather to a consistent protective thickness. Massaging it onto the skin is part of the luxurious ritual. So the way I see it there is not a wet shaver among us who is not technically a face latherer. It is just how much prep and where it is done that is in question.

One like another...creams are better in a bowl. Sticks on a bowl?? Not hardly. Soap..either way, really no difference to me.

True of course. I can also see why people enjoy bowl lathering, and indeed, it will be massaged onto the face anyway.

Do what works for you!

Face lathering is more convenient which is why I face lather when travelling. I like the warm lather I get when I use my scuttle; I never did figure out how to get warm lather when face lathering.

I am curious - what is the reason you don't like face lathering. Is it
cant lather, face dries up or love the bowl too much?

It's not so much any of that as this thing called gravity. It seems to be everywhere I go! It causes water and soap to run down my arm and drip off my elbow onto the counter top, the floor, and my feet. It causes water and thin lather to drip off my face onto my chest. I've never figured out how to counter gravity. Whipping up a lather in a bowl or mug is just so much more convenient. Not to mention the bowl or mug serves to contain the lather, while my face has no boundaries and allows water and lather to pretty much run amok. Just because I build a nice lather in a bowl doesn't mean I can't still give my face a good scrubbing with my luxurious brushes after applying the lather. There's no rule that says if the lather is already built, you can't do some more scrubbing and swirling and massaging with it on your face. I enjoy massaging a nice thick lather onto my face much more than using my face as a lather building surface. When I read posts of hard core face latherers, I sometimes get the impression that that's what they think. Once the lather is built, no scrubbing allowed on the face! I've tried face lathering. I really want it to work. I'll keep practicing it when I have the patience. It'd be nice when on the road to have one less piece of equipment to fool with. I was on the road for a week a couple weeks ago and face lathered the whole trip just to show myself I could. My Marvy rubber mug I bought just for travel sat idle in my shave bag the whole week. Face lathering worked. It was messy but it worked. It wasn't the bee's knees that I read about, and in the end, I thought the hassle of face lathering way outweighed the small trouble of just breaking out the Marvy. I was really glad to get home to my scuttle and treat old man gravity as a friend!

Yep!

My skin is really sensitive, and I try to minimize the amount of time I spend with soap or the brush touching my face. Too much time with either, and I end up with red blotches. It's been the same when I've tried to face lather with creams or soaps, boars or badgers. Face lathering is not an option for me.

Love the bowl, the meditation that it brings and the satisfaction of seeing and feeling all that beautiful lather growing in volume and smoothness.

1. Using a bowl allows me to be more consistent in the air and water that I blend in, so I think I make a better lather.

2. I think it speeds up the 2d and 3rd pass not to have to build again on the face.

3. I think bowl lathering combines the best of both, because I can still finish by lathering on the face as much as I want to. A lot of times I go over the face a good bit.

I prefer bowl lathering but I enjoy giving my face a good massage and working in the lather. To get the best of both worlds I bowl lather and part way through stop to use the almost ready lather for a pre shave massage and work in with the brush, I then finish my bowl lathering, strop my razor, wipe off my face, paint on the lather from the bowl and go for the shave.

Too much time wiping up the lather from the walls, floor, mirror, etc. also loving the warm lather from my sweet scuttle. However I will use a shave stick and a stiff brush while traveling.
