What's new

OK, time to confess

Newbie here. Just ordered my supplies to start shaving the right way :)

I must ask though, who out there still keeps their cartridge razor around to use once in a while?

Welcome to B&B!

It sounds like you have a wonderful opportunity to catch up on the many ongoing threads about cartridge shaving.

Welcome gtStricky!

Actually there are a fair number of cartridge shavers on these forums. They find the information on soap, brushes, etc. useful. I still keep my old Atra around. Haven't used it in a long time, but I might want it for travel some time, though I usually manage to take a DE.

And I actually bought a Fusion recently, $7.71 on Amazon for a Fusion and 2 cartridges. Never used one before, but all the talk about how awful they are made me curious. Haven't tried it yet.

Saving my Atra Plus cartridges for travel. I feel as though I'd be wasting a shave if I used the Atra instead of the HD at home!

I put the cartridge razor away when I went back to the DE. Never tossed it, but I'd have to hunt for it in order to retrieve it.

Welcome to B&B; glad to have you join us.

I thought about this this morning...I was moving my old Metal Atra Handle and unopened cartrage pack, so that I could get to my hidden away package of Shark blades to load up my Short toothed New Model.

I thought "I should get rid of this"...but you don't see the metal ATRA handles much, so I'll keep it for part of my collection, but I don't shave with it...

I keep it for those days I am in a rush or on travel. Other than that...I'm full DE.

+1-For travel definitely, and I must admit that as much as I absolutely enjoy my morning DE shaving ritual, there are some days few and far between when I am too lazy and reach for my M3!:blushing:

Well it's not technically a cartridge, but I'll confess to keeping a BIC single blade disposable in my AWOL bag. The old Trac II has been committed to the museum... Okay, okay a shoebox in the attic...

Shaved with a bic disposable this morning as an experiment. After saving with a DE it was a rather dissapointing shave.

Welcome to B&B.

I still have a twin bladed Schick FX Diamond laying around somewhere. If I could have gotten refills for it I would probably still be using it, best cartridge I ever used.

I still have the handles for the Sensor, Mach3 and Fusion, but I don't us them.

I've been full DE for about a year and once I started getting good shaves, the old handles just sat under the sink.

A couple of weeks ago I found an unused Fusion cartridge in my Dopp kit. When I was running late one day, I decided to give it a go. I had always considered the Fusion to be pretty good (seriously, and I will gladly accept a few shots and some snark for admitting that) so I was surprised at the results.

It miseed a lot of patches the DE leaves BBS, it felt like it was dragging on my face and I had more irritation afterward. Even the end result wasn't very close; I got stubble by 5PM after an 8AM shave, or after about nine hours. To put this in context, it takes about 20 hours for me to grow the same amount of stubble after a proper DE shave.

So, considering the better shave, less irritation, longer lasting results, and much lower price, I won't be going back to a cartridge.

Though I do plan to pick up the new Gillette gizmo for $8 or $9 and give it a try. My expectations are low, but I want firsthand experience that it doesn't stack up.
