What's new

OK, so I got into wet shaving in order to save money.

I am willing to bet that no one at B&B told you that you would save money.

I save money by using a DE. Wet shaving with a brush and soap does not require a DE, SE or straight. So if one wants to add the expense of cartridges on top of all the other stuff, then go right ahead.

There is the opportunity to save money.... Sadly, most of us suffer from various (or all) types of shaving addiction. Funny that the acronym would be SAD, and when my RAD starts acting up, SWMBO gets angry and that makes me SAD lol

There are two possible outcomes here,
1. You continue to spend more and more wanting to try new things.
2. You get to a stage where you say okay "this is ridiculous I better use the stuff I have" give up for a month then continue to buy stuff.

Hope all can appreciate this thread as 'tongue-in-cheek'... to a degree :biggrin1:
I did find this forum and wet shaving as a result of the high price of carts but starting to really appreciate all the various items; especially the vintage pieces.
My SWMBO'd just rolls her eyes when another package arrives...:001_rolle

not quite working out that way... :001_cool:

Hello from another Arlington neighbor. I fully understand how you feel.

Once i find my birth razor i promised myself i'm gonna stop. But then i saw those UFO handles and i now i have to get a razor that is compatible with them.

oh well.

I think I will long-term, I've settled on a razor, blades, and a brush, and am working out my preferences for software. Just don't ask me when I'll break even...

You *could* save money Steve, but as I'm sure you know it's pretty unlikely! I suspect your initial comments are pretty much tongue in cheek :biggrin1:

In the last month or so I've probably spent the equivalent of 4 years worth of Fusion power cartridges and canned goo... and I don't regret a penny of it, the end result is well worth it to me. It's not just the shave itself, it's the whole concept, almost a ritual now of preparation, lathering, the actual shave and then perhaps alum and after shave, balm and so on. Finishing with something I could never realise with cartridges.

Just for info I started with DE in the early 60's but as most people did I got sucked in to the whole multi blade cartridge thing... enough said. I'm back!

cheers

If you are strong, have faith in your quest and are resolute ... And I don't mean resolute like a 'New Years Resolution', I mean it in the ' I will repell the evil seeds into the dark pit of hell!' way. Maybe you'll be able to save a nickel or two .... :-/

Of all the various things on which I've wasted time and money over the years, considering the learning and pleasure I get out of this one every day, even if in two months my expenditures on DE shaving now total about $120, and my previous annual budget for Sensor cartridges and shave items was perhaps $80, I still feel way ahead of the game. How many crappy movies have I not wasted time and money seeing as I combed B&B and the web for info, shopping around, reading reviews, watching videos, finding deals, keeping notes, exploring and sharing ideas? How much junk food, munchies, or booze have I not consumed (ok, I am finding a drink while B&Bing can be kind of nice)? But, in general, I've not felt this focused, curious, eager, engaged from learning new skills and a new world, and feeling as if I'm taking control of an area of my life which had become dismal, dull, and dissatisfying which I'd ceded to a large corporation out to blade-enslave me, and now I'm regaining not merely the means of shave-production, but the culture and joy of it as well? Come on! How do you put a value on that?

And, I suspect, as most here do experience, after a few months, when I've tried enough things and gotten a good sense of the shave-scape, and will have experienced open combs, and adjustables, and 37 more blades, a sampling of brushes, various soaps and after-shave balms, and constructed my own scuttle, I'm sure I'll settle down into habits, and find that I don't often reach for x, y, or z, and will sell them, recoup some of my costs, and PIF a few things out, which always makes you feel good, and life shall continue, albeit with a few less bucks, but much more pleasure. Like learning a new language, or a new hobby, like learning to fly...

Haha every day I tell myself I'm done for the month, and then I realize I forgot to buy something. (Feather blades, Tabac and Razorock alum block in the mail right now... they were important!)
