So I picked up a slab of balsa, 1/2x3x12 and now what compound should I load it with? I have CrOx, and I have 1um diamond polish. I do not own a strop or proper hone. I am slowly picking up "poor mans" gear for doing this. I have a progression of sanding films, 4K, 6K, and 12K grit. I have clean flat leather, I have denim and/or canvas cloth available. I also have newsprint paper. I also have polished granite and marble tiles 12"x12".
Help me build up a functional setup for honing/stroping using these materials. I don't straight shave yet, but I have one razor tht is just so close to being shave ready, it cuts a free hanging hair, but still feels like a blade that has been used a couple times. I need to get it over that hump. I'm not the kind of person to just go order everything right from the start, but if necesary I will. Is there anything I should need beyond what I have here?
