Pictured before you is my collection of shaving gear that I have gathered since I started DE shaving about 4 weeks ago.
From the picture you can see that I have several choices to make, but I will leave these choices to all of you.
All I ask is that you pick the best possible shave you believe I could get with the items below.
Ready! GO!

Sorry about the poll I thought I could arrange it for a multiple choice but No Joy. So just make a choice in the poll and I will go from there.

I'm not sure I'm getting this poll. It won't allow a "vote on more than one item. So, my combination would be the DE89, Polsilvers, and BurmaShave brush.

I would go with an Ever-Ready Streamline, GEM SS PTFE coated SE razor blade, B&B Essentials boar brush, and Cella soap.

(I know none of those are pictured. I just thought I would give you something to think about.)
:)

Not fair! I actually was tempted to be a smart-*** and post that AKASL didn't have near enough equipment to choose from!

If this poll is closing on September 8th and this is to decide your next shave then you'll definitely have some good growth to mow down!

Hrmmmmmmmm Let's see 31 days of growth would leave me looking like Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty:laugh:

poll only allows one option, recommend you post another poll as some members may be interested in voting but not writing so may improve your sample size

from your options I'd go with: Merkur Progress + Astra SP + any brush

I have only ever used Gillette razors, so I can't give any recommendations for your next shave. What I can suggest is that you throw out those personna platinum blades, as they do absolutely nothing for me. I need a 4 pass shave to accomplish even a mediocre shave with them, IMHO.

OK so these are the items I chose to shave with today, Merkur Progress set on 1, Polsilver Blade, Nivea Sensitive Skin Shaving Cream, Gillette After Shave and believe it or not for the pre shave I use Chamois Butter anti chaffing cream. This combination worked absolute wonders on my face.
I found the Merkur razor to be very forgiving and I would recommend it to anyone with sensitive skin. The Polsilvers worked well but in my limited experience DE shaving I can't really say if these are better then the other blades in my collection.
The Gillette after shave worked well also but yet again I do not have enough experience with this product to say whether or not there is something out there that will work better for me.

I went cycling early today to beat the Texas heat, and part of my pre ride ritual is to apply the Chamois Butter directly to the padding in my shorts. This works absolute wonders when spinning long, hot miles where there is not much between your butt and the saddle of the bike. While I was riding I got the idea to try this cream as a pre-shave balm. So after a hot shower I used about a quarter sized dollop in my hands and applied it to my 3 day beard. I then applied a layer of Nivea, loaded the Polsilver into the Merkur, set it to 1, and for the first time in about 4 weeks I actually enjoyed my shave.
I was able to make multiple passes over the same area keeping my skin wet while checking for stubble with each pass, I now have a BBS face.
After everything was all said and done I had two small weepers that appeared on my neck. These were taken care of with a little water and a tissue patch.

The Chamois Butter may seem radical to some but after reading the ingredients and comparing them to what's in the Nivea I figured I have nothing to lose. After all, it does work wonders with preventing chaffing in the nether regions:wink2:
