What's new

Oh No---what to do now with a broken brush

Well this morning as I was cleaning my brush(the custom ceramic handled one from Herban Cowboy) I was shaking the water out of the brush and the knot fell out of the handle and into the sink. It is still bound, so to fix should be no more trouble than getting some epoxy and setting the knot.........

BUT then I thought...I have another handle in the basement waiting for a knot...I think this knot would be the right size....and then...well then, I could upgrade the knot in my favorite handle, the one that fell apart this morning, with a higher grade knot. The knot that came out is "Pure Badger"...I am thinking "UK Silvertip" might be nice...and the old knot would be perfect for my EverReady Handle restor.

Either way, the ceramic handle is in fine shape, they just didn't use enough epoxy when the put it togather...so an oportunity presents....

How good of a knot is it that fell out? You might want to just toss it and upgrade to something like a Best Badger for the EverReady, and the Silvertip for the Herban Cowboy handle.

With a ceramic handle you will have to be careful buying a new knot depending upon your desired loft. You will not be able to modify that handle to set loft like you can on the EverReady. So don't glue the Urban knot in the EverReady until you find a knot that will work with the ceramic handle.

Thanks fopr the heads up on the ceramic handle issue...hadn't thought about that...I am thinking of doind some filling to weigh it down...I like a heavy handle...I am for sure doing that with the EveryReady. I like the knot that is/was in the handle, it was just the right amount of "scritchy"...but I don't have in my stable a really soft brush...so I think I will upgrade it, and the EverReady restor can be the "Scritchy" brush. I'll wait till the other knots arrive, and then take it one step at a time.

Thanks again for the input

I just knoted a handle with a TGN Grade A Silvertip knot and it's amazingly soft but my next restore is going to be for a daily use brush and it won't be a silvertip, it'll be something substantially more stiff than the Grade A Silvertip.

Maybe you'll want a soft brush for your daily use but it's kind of a trade off putting it on your favorite handle if you're only going to want to pick it up once a week.

Just a thought...
