What's new

Oh, Milord - Tech!!!

Hi, all you safety razor fans out there. While traveling through one of my favorite stomping grounds for antique shopping, I came across this:

Thanks to a short discussion with Jim (sol92258) and the extensive cataloging work of our very own AsylumGuido, I've determined that this is a 1941 Gillette Milord Tech, not the usual TTO version. Not bad for 10 bucks. After a little dose of scrubbing bubbles, this old razor looks outstanding. :thumbup1:

EDIT: NEVER MIND the above. Seems I was mistaken (understandable considering the razor came in the wrong box) and this is in fact not a Milord of any kind, but a gold-plated Tech.

If you are like me, you enjoy a little 'razor porn'. Maybe this version will make you happy.

Also, I will most likely try a shave with it tomorrow. I'll post a pic in the SOTD thread just for kicks and giggles. Enjoy your day!

Are you sure this is a 2 piece Milord? Cuz I have one that is exactly similar, the only difference is that your case says Milord and mine says Gillette.

Yours a 1947 Milord case with a fat handle Tech. But for $10 it´s OK

It's a 3 piece. In 1941, the Ranger Tech also had an alter ego gold colored version of the Milord. The 1947 and beyond Milords have the SS-type handle.

It's a Tech razor in a Milord box.

I'm trying to avoid considering the box in this equation. We all know how easy it is for the antique store dealers to 'mislabel' something. What I'm most interested in is the fact that it's definitely a Tech razor, but it's gold plated, which is a Milord trait.

It's not a TTO, so it's not a Milord.

It's a Tech. There were nickel, gold, and black-handled Techs with the fat handle.

Gotcha. In fact, I just determined that myself as I visited http://www.collectorsencyclopedia.com/ that I found via your signature (thanks ) and the 1941 Milord also has that same, round-ended handle.

Oh, well. It's still a nice razor. It's just got a mislabeled case.

Thanks, all, for clearing this up. Uh, anyone need a Milord case? :001_rolle

Here's another picture from Achim's site. I'm not as knowlegeable as he is, but in all the auction site browsing I've done (and that's a lot), I've come across just as many gold-plated Techs as nickel-plated.

AHHHH, very nice. Thanks. I missed this one. So now the question is, what year? I've found a Gold Tech on the Collector's Encyclopedia marked 1963. But that's not much to work from to confirm.

Hold on to that case, it's in great shape.
Sooner or later your going to run across a Milord without a case, and then - - your set.

Hehe, yeah. I suppose the question I should ask isn't who needs a Milord case but who has a Gold Tech case? :tongue_sm

No, really, Jim and I discussed it and thought it would be nice to PIF the case to some needy collector if this case turned out to be wrong for the razor. We shall see...

I am always looking for orphaned cases!
