What's new

Oh dear (first nib thread)

The other day I was lazing around in bed early in the morning, and watched a Fountain Pen 101 vid from Goulet, prepping for the arrival of my first FP. My kindergarten daughter stumbles in bleary-eyed "i had a bad dream" or something. She curls up in bed with me and we watch a few together on the iPod touch.

She gets up this morning, I'm in bed poking the iPod again on B&B, she says "can we watch Fountain Pen one oh one again?"

"do you like fountain pens?"

"yeh"

Mind you, she's never seen a fountain pen before those videos. My guess is she just likes to curl up under the down comforter with Daddy, but getting started early with cozy associations can't hurt!

Get her a Pelikano Jr. Never too early to start and will set her apart from her peers.

I mentioned kindergarten, right? :)

So I looked it up anyway, and ran across an "L" version for lefties. What makes an FP left vs right? It seems very symmetrical to me.

Condolences Congratulations on your Nib entry!

You thought there were coti varieties? Just wait until you get into inks!

except now I can see me wanting to get one for everyone in the family...you big dorks...

Share?... I mean just cause you buy one for everyone in the family doesn't mean you have to share them with the family does it?

My daughter started in first grade. Not sure what the difference between L and R would be.

My daughter in first grade keeps asking me for a fountain pen. I already taught her how to write her name in cursive, but am hesitant about the fountain pen because I do not want ink all over.

Either the Bic or Pilot disposable FP's should do nicely. It's still an FP, but really not much chance of ink getting everywhere.

Thanks for sharing, cute story! Maybe she just likes relaxing to the soothing voice of Brian Goulet? But it can't hurt for her to be interested in proper pens at an early age!
